The only thing I really have a problem with is deferring the money imo that shouldn’t be allowed but I certainly can’t fault the dodgers for doing it when it’s allowed. I do think we are headed for a bad lockout
Yeah this will be addressed in the next CBA for sure. Ohtani making $700M for 10 years, but his 2025 salary is only $2M, and the luxury tax hit is $46M based on some voodoo math... $680M of his deal is paid out after his 10 years are up.
I know all teams could do this, so it's not Dodgers specific, but it's definitely going to be a talking point.
And Ohtani is making 9 figures annually in endorsements so he's fine deferring to when he's not the face of the league.

I’m not a Dodger fan generally but I was pulling for them in this series because as I mentioned in a post the other day there’s something about this Toronto team I don’t like (I actually was hoping for Milwaukee vs. Seattle), but I am probably going to get flamed to ashes for saying this although I don’t give a s**t, I think much of the bitching about NY and LA stems from a general animus toward those cities in general on this Southern-oriented venue that has nothing really to do with sports.

Even with all their money the dodgers could’ve lost that series.
Still think something should be done to level the playing field financially speaking.

Mets had the highest payroll in baseball. And missed the playoffs.

They have the #1 farm system in the league. Talent isn't something they're lacking in any area.
Well, let's say it this way = for me development is guys making a difference at the MLB level now. Farm system ratings are great and typically a fair barometer but prospects are prospects until they show otherwise. And most of their prospects are blocked by dudes with big an long contracts.

Counterpoint having a villain in the league seems to help
NBA peaked during the Miami Heat days
Nfl with the patriots era
And mlb in the 90s with the Yankees
People love to hate, and teams like the dodgers fit the role perfectly

OP nailed this aspect: Buffalo hits on Josh Allen. Cornerstone of the franchise. Bill for life.
Pirates hit on Skenes. And yet we’re all just counting down the days til he has to shave the mustache and join the Yankees because that’s who will give him his big second contract. He’ll be remembered best as a Yankee.
It’s like if Josh Allen went to the Cowboys to be their franchise guy for 10 years after his first 3 years with the Bills

Perhaps. In my case it's because both the Yankees (in the past) and Dodgers (currently) have been direct obstacles to the Braves winning more championships.

I would act butt-hurt about the Dodgers spending mad money, but as a Phillies fan, they've spent a shite ton the last 5 years too and have nothing to show for it.
But yeah...frick the Dodgers.
