His record is better but only marginally

Hoke was coach at U.M when big ten was worse as well so can't really compare

I mean it's year 3, not 2 or 1.

He's pulled every gimmick he's could to get recruits, and anything and everything in between, and still a 3rd place finish in his division.

What the hell is with the arbitrary year 3 standard?

Outside of Sagan and Meyer, which "great" coaches today had firmly established themselves by then?

What was dabo doing year 3?

There's been nothing to suggest that he's better than Hoke IMO.

Ehh...Hoke won the majority of his games year 1, in a very down Big 10. He was horrid every year after that.

He also had denard Robinson

If harbaugh had denard last year, UM would be a playoff team

The issue with this board is that they are not educated about UM

Especially rocket31, who relies on Medicaid

Harbaugh deserves criticism though. He needs to do the right thing and clean house on offense.

Carroll and Stoops and Saban won Natty's by year 3.

Stoops year 2.

Like I said earlier, last year was his chance and he blew it. I don't think they'll win the big 10 till 2019.

God this board has some stupid people.

Hoke won 60% of his games. 56% in the Big 10.

Harbaugh has won 76% of his. 72% in the Big 10.

Just since the 1980s?

Lou Holtz (Notre Dame, 1988) - 3rd season
Dennis Erickson (Miami, 1989) - 1st season
Gene Stallings (Alabama, 1992) - 3rd season
Lloyd Carr (Michigan, 1997) - 3rd season
Bob Stoops (Oklahoma, 2000) - 2nd season
Larry Coker (Miami, 2001) - 1st season
Jim Tressel (Ohio State, 2002) - 2nd season
Pete Carroll (USC, 2003) - 3rd season
Urban Meyer (Florida, 2006) - 2nd season
Les Miles (LSU, 2007) - 3rd season
Nick Saban (Alabama, 2009) - 3rd season
Gene Chizik (Auburn, 2010) - 2nd season
Urban Meyer (Ohio State, 2014) - 3rd season

And those are just coaches who won national championships by the end of year three. The list of coaches who have won their conference by the end of year three is much, MUCH longer. Harbaugh hasn't even done that yet.

The reason threads like this are stupid is because they are pointless

Harbaugh isn't going anywhere. If Michigan fired jim harbaugh it would be the most bizarre decision in the history of American sports and wouldcahse a HUGE negative firestorm with media

But that list is pointless because most of the coaches had years 4,5,6,7,etc that were "down" years

Lloyd Carr went an average of 9-3/8-4 after his NC

Miles went 8-5 in 2008

If year 3 shouldn't be a rebuild and is a scourge on the coach, what about year 4s that are shite?

No it's not. You merely asked the question and I merely gave you the answer.

Well said. Last year was the year he needed to get people off of his back and break through.

Saban and Meyer have made everyone retarded. The fact that Jimbo is catching hell is insane. Bad years happen. ND and MSU were smart to chill out on Kelly and Dantonio and they are back to respectable. At least Harbaugh hasn't gone 4-8.

Michigan should be good next year, but the schedule is brutal. I'll apologize for Harbaugh and support mediocre football for two more years, then start getting pissed. U-M really has no other choice. I think Jim leaves after another year out of frustration and wanting to coach pro football, anyway.

I think Michigan is in a similar situation as ND, it's just much harder to win at those schools nowadays. I agree with SEC fans, aside from the top recruits in Ohio, the talent up north simply pales in comparison to the south. Harbaugh needs to dip into the south and the Atlantic a lot more.

Harbaugh has been going into the south and getting players

That's partially why this board hates him

You see, the typical white southern sec fan thinks they "own" black players and have a right to keep them on the SEC plantations

The rules against summer camps is essentially a fugitive slave law

Harbaugh and Meyer are basically Harriet Tubman and white Southern fans do not like that

They view 4 and 5 star black players as their property
