The fact that NBC, CBS and Fox seem willing to do this is the reason Roger Goodell has his job and all the other stuff about like handling league discipline poorly or whatever don't matter

I mean clearly it mattered a little bit since they drastically changed their league discipline policies over the last few years

The NFL wants as much money as they can get.

So does every for-profit organization on this planet. Hell so do not for profits and non-profits.

They don’t NEED them. They WANT their money though.

And they were only down 7% in an election year and Covid. This board was salivating back in 2016 when the ratings were down, then came the excuses when ratings came roaring back the following years. The same thing will happen now.

Disney agreed to pay $1.9 billion annually for Monday Night Football in 2011 — a deal that runs through 2021. That dwarfed the average $1.1 billion annual cost for Fox, $1 billion annual price tag for CBS and $960 million for NBC's Sunday Night Football.

Looks to me like ESPN overpays the hell out of MNF, while the others see little issue in paying more for their relatively dirt cheap deals.

ESPN just paid 6X what CBS paid for the SEC GOTW.You think that viewership was increasing or decreasing?

No one has said a famn thing about college. WTF you bringing that for?

And? Is that set figure increasing or decreasing?

The point of this thread is Disney not wanting to pay more? AND, that the NFL is trying to scalp them for TV money because consumption is way down across the board

You serious??

TV ratings are a figure showing viewership.
Hint...lower ratings absolutely means fewer viewers

So overdramatic Ratings were down 7%, in the an election year plus covid. Let's wait and see if ratings rebound next year. They did in 2017.

Because Streaming doesn’t exist in your reality?

Why should Covid have hurt sports ratings?

Sports were some of the only new entertainment available last year because most shows and movies either had production issues or exhibition issues.

And it wasn’t like people were readily able to go out and do many things given Covid restrictions for the better part of a year.

If anything, their ratings should have gone up.

Its counted, but in a diff category. But here's the kicker...tv ads many times aren't shown on streaming. So please tell me how you explain that to an advertiser.

Huh? That means its WORSE for them! People are at home and viewership DROPS? Shouldn't more people watch?

Election year? Please explain how Sundays games would be less watched during an election year.

LOL, you proved our point precisely.
7% drop is huge...especially if the anticipated audience was sitting at home and didnt choose to tune in.

Are you under the impression that there are no ads on these network’s streaming services or do you believe they just don’t charge for them?

As I was saying, traditional tv ratings may be down, but viewership isn’t. Hell viewership is likely up due to the advent of streaming. A good 75% or more of my NFL viewership this past season was via apps and not my physical televisions.

There are different adds on streams that aren't the ones on TV, you dolt. So again, on topic, the TV ads will become lower revenue when being shown to smaller audiences. Therefore, buying the rights to show the games becomes worrisome if the ads aren't as valuable
Again, we are talking about tv money deals here

Because we saw the same thing in 2016. Go check out the massive numbers for news shows. Ratings then rebounded every year until now. When ratings start going up again, you'll be nowhere to be found.
