Yeah, this doesn't help.

The 2011 Finals matter a lot in the "who's the greatest ever" context

Jordan would NEVER have done that.

For fricks sake, Jordan literally quit the entire sport of basketball for 1.5 years, yet LeBron is chastised for playing poorly in one NBA Finals.

Welcome to the MSB, where 2 Finals appearances and 2 wins is better than 5 Finals appearances and 2 wins.

ahhh now you're using sense to make your argument work, good job

and this is an interesting debate...would Jordan have been better by going straight to the NBA or going to UNC?

and on the flip side, what about Lebron? how would his career be if he would have went to college (Im guessing Ohio State)?

Until Lebron finishes his career, I think it's too early to say he is the GOAT

Didn't Dean Smith draw up the final play for Jordan and he made the winning shot?

Yes as a freshman. Everybody who knows anything about basketball knows and it's well documented that Dean Smith put the reigns on MJ while he was at UNC to teach MJ and every UNC player the concept of team basketball. It paid dividends later in MJ's career.

I'm not trying to say he is goat. I only am making the point that comparing age makes more sense than seasons played, as age is the biggest factor in when a career will end

Except if you took off the top West team's best player and added LeBron they would almost definitely be the favorite to win the West. Imagine Westbrook, Ibaka, and Lebron Imagine Blake Griffin, Deandre Jordan and Lebron (or CP3 Lebron and Jordan) Imagine Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Lebron (and coached by Pop) Imagine Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Lebron Imagine Dwight and Lebron No way in hell those teams don't make it to the conference finals in the West. Highly doubtful those teams don't win it all imo.

Its bad enough that he drafts his own teammates and now you are placing him on other mythical teams. Awesome!

This is Lebron's 12th season in the NBA, he has won 2 championships and has a chance to win a 3rd.

In Jordan's 12th year in the NBA he won his 5th championship...

See I don't necessarily agree. Age is a factor but so is minutes played...more wear and tear on the body makes you break down at an earlier age.

Now I don't think Lebron will break down because the guy is a physical freak I mean just look at him. But will he suffer a career ending injury in the finals this year? He could. Can he start getting hurt every season like Kobe? He could.

I believe comparing season is the only true measure b/c it shows what they have both done in the same amount of time in the league. but to each his own

Once again Gibson using seasons played over age is so illogical. But carry on with it if it makes you feel better

It is incredibly unlikely considering it took him 7 seasons to get to the Finals.

Dude was a scrub in college

Freshmen Year = ACC Freshman of the Year
Sophomore Year = Consensus first-team All-American
Junior Year = Naismith and Wooden College Player of the Year

He then enters the league and as a rookie, he averages 28 points, (on 52% shooting), 7 rebounds, 6 assists

No way would he have been able to put up numbers in the pros at 19 or 20

Please explain how "incredibly unlikely" it is that giving the GOAT 3 more years in the NBA wouldn't have given him a chance to reach the Finals sooner than the 90-91 season?

There is no way seasons played is the logical objective way to look at this. These are the two main reasons why

1. Most likely, MJ wins no more titles or finals of he comes in the league at 18. This point has been discussed. Look at my other posts

2. Age is the biggest factor on when a player retires.

That is factually correct, but disingenuous to the debate at hand. Jordan's 12 seasons encapsulate most of his prime, beginning in 1988 when Jordan was 25. LeBron's prime also started when he was 25, but he had been in the league for 7 seasons by then.

i always enjoy the lebron smack talking on here. people get so angry over it.. And im as big of lebron fan as any on this board. but, lebron will never be jordan. He can only be lebron. They are two totally different playing styles, and there is nothing wrong with that. Im just thankful i was lucky enough to be able to watch both in their primes. Hands down the two best players I have ever watched.

Hypothetically speaking (I am in no way using real players or numbers)

Player A) 15 years in the league, retires at age 33, 3 rings

Player B) 12 years in the league, retires at age 32, 6 rings

What is more impressive? They end up with the same amount of points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, etc..

Jordan wasn't getting to the Finals until he got help. Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant were developing into good/great players by the time the 1990 season rolled around.

Additionally, Jordan's prime didn't start until 1988ish.

Getting to the league 3 seasons earlier would not have changed either of those things IMO.

Player B.

But that has nothing to do with the argument at hand.

LeBron isn't done. Jordan is. We can compare them at the same age, and at the same age, LeBron's accomplishments are >>>> than Jordan's accomplishments.

Additionally, Magic's accomplishments are >>>>>> than both of them.
