you do understand that the consensus puts LSU as a top 10 program nationally in history, right?

Think about this for a minute. Last year Bama got into the title game not winning it's conference or even its division over a OSU team that lost 1 game and won it's conference is what's considered a very good conference. This year Oregon on the other hand loses 1 game and doesn't play for the conference championship and gets left out for a Bama team with 1 loss that did win its conference. Something is truly wrong with that. A little inconsistency.

Huh?
All I meant is there is no consensus when ranking all time greats.

Play that game whenever/wherever you want and Louisville wins. If that's not plain as day to you then you should pickup a different sport.

If you don't realize how much a team's motivation to be at the game factors into the outcome you should pick up a different sport. If Florida played Louisville in the regular season, it probably would have been the beat down everyone was expecting to see in the SB.
I mean I guess you somehow magically forgot y'all's game against USC, AT HOME? Lowest yardage and point output by your team in the whole season, by far. All I remember hearing from y'all before that game is how great your offense was and that our D was overrated.

Occasionally some upsets happen, such as the Sugar Bowl. That's what makes college football great. But you're sadly mistaken if you think somehow the SEC is on the decline.

Tajh Boyd

Got sacked nearly 6 times at home vs an SEC defense just a few weeks before the bowl game.

So I've said for a while that these SEC defenses were overrated and simply the product of mediocre QB play and offensive creativity. Now this isn't to say they're not good, they're very good. However, people making it out like there are 5-6 Steel Curtains in the SEC each year are absurd.

It's been proven time and time again that when you spread these SEC defenses out that good QB play can take advantage of them. These defenses are insolated by a conference that plays its games in a phone booth and isn't dynamic offensively.

A basketball program that couldn't even win the Big East outright just skulldrug Florida's dominant defense. Louisville needed 3 Overtimes to break 20 against UCONN, and no we're not talking about basketball, yet they threw the ball all over Florida.

Tajh Boyd looked like Johhny Football going for almost 350 yards and accounting for 3 TDs. Johnny Manziel (I'm talking about their style of offense which is unique for the SEC, I obviously know Texas A&M is in the SEC) torched Alabama in BDS.

My question is (and I know it took a while to get here), does this year change your perception of last year in regards to the LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State argument?

Oklahoma State was better on offense than any of the aforementioned teams who had great success against vaunted SEC defenses. They had a more seasoned, talented QB in Weeden, a bigger playmaker in Blackmon, and a seasoned OL.

I always thought (and I think most agreed) that Oklahoma State was more deserving on paper, but that Alabama and LSU were simply better. I'm not sure if I still agree with that. I think they could have spread either of those teams out and had a ton of success. What do yal think?

Do me a favor. Check the PPG for Clemson against non-SEC teams and compare it to their PPG average against SEC teams.

Then do the same with FSU.

Louisville offense isn't dynamic. It doesn't spread teams out. It's actually as vanilla as any SEC offense. Here is Louisville's offense:

First down: run ball, loss of 1 yard
Second down: run ball, loss of 2 yards
Third down: Teddy Bridgewater completes 16 yard pass for the first down.

Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

Gotta love revisionist history. LSU fvcking beat Bama last year yet no one was playing within 21 of them? Make sense.
I'm sorry, I meant excluding LSU. And I stand by that.

Penn State should be in Florida States place

LSU/Tennessee are almost identical historically as far as conference and national championships go

Why is Texas listed twice? And I agree that Penn State should be ahead of FSU. The Semenholes can stack up with anyone if just comparing the last 30 years but don't quite make the cut if you're comparing all-time.

It's funny you mention Alabama's overly conservative offense because in every haters mad rush to trash SEC defenses they fail to mention that Alabama offense has averaged 38 points per game the last 2 seasons. Yet Alabama has been deemed to have "no offense" when teams that average 38 points in a weak defensive league like the Big 12 are deemed prolific. Why the double standard?

Excellent point. Apparently if a team isn't slinging it 50 times each game for 600 yds then they have no offense

For the record, I always said OSU should have gone over Bama last year. I think Bama was the best team in the country, but they lost AT HOME during the regular season. OSU lost on the road to a team I believe at least won their bowl game (don't quote me on that). If that OSU jersey said Ohio State, with the same resume, Bama is home and Ohio State is playing for the marbles

Perception means so much in CFB. I mean, USC and Michigan could play 10 times and go 5-5 or 2-8 one way or the other; all that matter is that South Carolina pulled it out on 1/1/13

Good points.

I go back and forth on how I think voting should be done. If it was done on the merit of who was the best team then yea you should have had Bama in the Title Game last year. However, if you're doing it on who's resume has the most merit than Oklahoma State absolutely should have been there.

I'm not saying there's a right or wrong way to do it, just wish it was more clear which metric they go by.
