The Nevada Gaming Control Board ruled Thursday that daily fantasy sports is gambling and will require a license to operate in the state.

NGC Chairman A.G. Burnett wrote in a release that, "because DFS involves wagering on the collective performance of individuals participating in sporting events, under current law, regulation and approvals, in order to lawfully expose DFS play within the State of Nevada, a person must possess a license to operate a sports pool issued by the Nevada Gaming Commission."

The NGC stated that all unlicensed activities must cease and desist as of Thursday. Operators who do not comply face felony fines and 10 years in prison.

FanDuel and DraftKings, the two most prominent daily fantasy operators, did not immediately respond to comment.

FanDuel considers itself a game of skill and does not possess a Nevada gambling license.

Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and Washington state currently do not allow daily fantasy sports. Several additional states prohibit some form of daily fantasy.

they did not say it's illegal they said you have to have a liscense. Horse racing went through the same shite about 10 years ago all the sports books i used shut down overnight and now there are only a handful of online betting sites, all owned by the tracks basically.

they basically want their cut

Its obviously gambling. I played last week, deposited $23 and made over $5 million. And it made my Sundays much more exciting too!

It's gambling in every sense of the word, everyone knows that, even the operators. The whole it's not gambling is solely due to the politics and bs that goes along with it. Just like gambling is legal in like 49 states, but it's labeled as lotto because the state benefits greatly from it.

Predicted what exactly? Predicted that Nevada would "tax" the DFS sites? If so, solid prediction, makes logical sense if you would of thought about. If your prediction was that it will outlawed, you are clearly mistaken, as it is expressly legal federally and has powerful backers behind it (i.e. NFL, MLB, Disney), it's not going away anytime soon.

Well... It is gambling and not based on "skill."

When people choose the same damn people, it comes down to the random guy that catches his first TD of his career or whatever it is. It's like the lottery, except you already know 5 of the numbers and just need to guess the 6th.

Gambling doesn't just mean "betting." Whether it is "gambling", and therefore requires a license, depends on whether some bureaucracy determines that it is a game of chance or a game of skill.
