Enough said.
Never thought I'd say "stick to sports"

You're an idiot
Dez Bryant posts on Instagram about why is it that smart black people are demeaned by other black people etc. Etc.
Actively encouraging African Americans to embrass intelligence and to better themselves and he should stick to sports? Probably the best social commentary I've seen from a sportsman in a long time

I'd like to see that fake black guy Shaun King call Dez Bryant an Uncle Tom. Then we'd really have a story on our hands.

Real question: What is wrong with being sophisticated and black? Why do we associate those who choose the straight-and-narrow as not being "black enough?" Why was it that I was one of the first examples of success to my friend?
Bravo

Are you denying that what he is saying is true, or is it that you just don't want to hear it?

Ugh, you should have stayed banned.

Holy shite, this is terrific commentary. Gained a newfound respect for him. Who could possibly have a problem with this take?
quote:
First and foremost, I would like to say I do a great job of minding my own business, but it's pressing on my heart to share my thoughts about white Americans and black Americans (racism).
I saw a person quote Charles Barkley when he said, "We as black people, we're never going to be successful not because [of] you white people, but because of other black people."
I hate to admit it, but I understand that quote.
I've been [racially] profiled on numerous occasions, but not once has it influenced an ill feeling inside me about anyone outside of that issue. REAL SLAVERY is different from what's going on in our world now. We all (every ethnicity) have the opportunity to lead by EXAMPLE.
Instead of making videos about the history of racism that get applause or people with influence merely doing things to post for social media, we should focus on individual accountability to be better as a whole.
I recently ran into a guy I grew up with who spent his adulthood dealing drugs. While we were catching up, he shared with me that he wished that he chose a different and better path. He said seeing my success was inspiring and that it encouraged him to do better with his life.
Real question: What is wrong with being sophisticated and black? Why do we associate those who choose the straight-and-narrow as not being "black enough?" Why was it that I was one of the first examples of success to my friend?
We focus hard on fighting the realities that exist instead of creating our own reality. The ones who came for us (Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X) paved a new path for us to follow. The struggles and hurt they endured created new life for us today.
It is not our job to carry the burden, but it is our job to lead by example.
Not that my opinion matters, I'm just sharing my thoughts.

This is so ridiculous. Black people are still saying this crap?
Dont believe it --- politics aside, you'd be hard pressed to not see the Obamas of the epitome or examples of black excellence. They made it "cool" or normal to be smart, successful, black and nerdy.
We have pictures of them in all of our barber shops, which are defacto community centers. Our churches, from catholic to baptist, have obama photos lined up next to rosa parks and MLK. Black people old and young revere this family. Shoot AAs consider Obama's election more significant than 9/11.
This is so over exaggerated and such a small minority of betas that believe that.
There are other reasons people might consider some selling out, and it has nothing to do with success or acting s certain way.
Dez is ignant AF

Does being wrong all of the time come naturally, or is it intentional?

His commentary isn't wrong, its that racist take that as validation for remaining socially stagnant.
No shite, he's right, we can do all those things, but how about individual accountability and group accountability for others/all?

In all seriousness I think part of what him/Charles Barkley are saying is that as long as black people are going to blame white people/slavery for their failures, they aren't going to move forward.
I'm not black so I don't really have an opinion on that but that seems to be their message.

From personal experience, I assure you that that isn't true, I'm sorry.

Im 100 right.
Social Progress Opponents (SPOs) take comments like this from successful minorities as validation for their beliefs that we are truly fair and equal in society, when there is nothing concrete that suggests so besides some "laws" on the books (which are always applied differently and within different spirits).
Dez's reality isn't the same for others; dez is a statistical ANALOMY. Most kids are gonna be blessed to be 6'3 220 with his skill and coordination and athleticism.
