im just noting the irony

Colleges fail athletes all the same.

We celebrate the destruction of the family unit and then bitch about the consequences, but if he still had his money and was banging skanks on the reg, hitting the clubs...none of you would have any concern

Bottom line is your parents teach you to make good decisions. There isn’t a course or advisor that will turn you into someone who makes good decisions.

That’s not irony. That’s a false correlation.

I have no idea where this tangent even came from.

It came out if nowhere. No one in this thread has brought up family units. You brought up college education, which still has nothing to do with that.

The OP wants something done about SPORTS because an athlete is living on the street

Lots of people live on the street and their path to living on the street started the same way his did.

It’s not rocket science.

I wonder would delonte west’s chances for becoming an addict with mental health problems increase or decrease if he grew up in a home with 2 married parents. Mom and dad.

Hmmmmmmmmm. I’m going to have to think about that one. That’s a doozy. A real question for the ages

These pro leagues are private corporations. They can impose whatever rules they want. You want to play in our league & make millions? Cool. Here's the new rules for financial & personal stability. Don't like it? Cool. Stay in college & graduate.

Can you name literally one organization that requires its employees to undergo some sort of “financial & personal stability” course in order to work for them?

And I understand that pro sports are the exception in that you come into the league making millions. But even still, if you graduate college and come into a professional job - do you know one company that requires new employees to take a similar course so that they properly handle their finances? Sure, a new college grad may only be making 50k so the financial problems for the college grad will be different from the athlete. But alas, there are still plenty of financial concepts that a college grad will need to teach themselves that an employer won’t teach (credit card health, buying vs renting, loans and paying them back, budgeting). It’s on you to take responsibility for your finances, regardless of the industry you are in or the level of earnings you attain.

There's simply too much money being made by pro sports/owners that it's criminal they don't have vetted, permitted, & consistently reviewed financial advisers along with psychological evaluations & treatment for their players. You simply cannot continue to take these kids from the most average & below average of childhoods & into supreme professional sports popularity then just toss them in the streets when their careers are done. It's just not right. We have too much evidence that the "let them be adults" tactic isn't working.

This is not a case of personal responsibility or lack there of. Delonte West is clearly bipolar or schizophrenic or something

They can’t...duh

Even if they could, they wouldn’t. The nba is run by the agents of subversion.

He was diagnosed with Bi Polar disorder in '08 and had the best medical care available to him.

Multiple friends and family tried to help.Him being a NBA star has nothing to do with where he's at now.

He needs to be institutionilised
but nobody can force him

I just don’t understand why people are mentioning his upbringing. That has nothing to do with his bipolar disorder.
