The silver lining of hardly any Astros base runners last night is we didn't have to watch kershaw go through his karate kid routine out of the stretch many times

In verlander we trust. Let's take this one and go back home

Ryno, it will be loud whether it is open or closed.

However, and you know this, it is SOOOO much louder with it closed.

I just hate that the commissioner wants to take this obvious advantage away from us. If he steps in on this issue, why not control the length of blades of grass on the playing surface? That is an advantage for a home team used to playing on a surface like that versus the away team that is not. I didn't look for it last night because I was going out of my mind during the game, but the Dodgers have been notorious for a thicker infield and outfield grass surface. It was like Persia Monir out there the last time the 'Stros visited Chavez Ravine.

For the record I grew up a massive astros fan

Dad use to take me to the dome as a kid. Was there for the 21 inning game in 89 vs the Dodgers where Scott Hamilton the 3B pitched for the dodgers

Use to love Bill Doran and Glenn Davis

Would listen to Milo in my room every night in Lake Charles

Whether the roof is open or closed should be a club ground rule decision not an MLB decision.

THIS!

MLB Ground Rules

quote:

Guidelines for Movement of Retractable Roofs

The decision as to whether a game begins with the roof open or closed rests solely with the home club.

Is there anything that says that the rule changes in the postseason? If not, MLB should have zero say as to whether the roof is open or closed.

Not really arguing, just wondering why it is so etched into people's minds that the best pitchers have to pitch game 1. If you are going to have someone pitch 3 games I get it 1-4-7. If everyone is only getting 2 starts anyway, then may as well try and get the advantage in 4/7. I think with the current matchups, the Astros really only have an advantage in games 2/6* if necessary.

I don't think you are punting, you are setting yourself up to try and win 4/7 games.

I think the main thing is that this is just how the rotation worked out based on rest days.

If the Astros had finished off the Yankees in 5 days and could set it up exactly how they wanted then maybe things change a bit.

If you throw game 4 you would be throwing game 7 on short rest which is not ideal. The numbers for guys on short rest are not great.

If you're talking about throwing your two best guys in games 2/3 to line them up for games 6/7, them getting two starts is far from a guarantee. And especially far from a guarantee for whoever you throw game 3. There's a very good chance your #3 guy who starts game 1 gets two starts though.

Again if McCullers was available for game 1 on normal rest I would necessarily have been opposed. I think he still gives you a decent shot (or at least close to what Keuchel gives you) to win game 1 vs Kershaw while increasing your odds in game 2 with Verlander and 3 with Keuchel or however you lined them up. But I want to maximize the chances Verlander and Keuchel throw twice while keeping them on regular rest

It seems to be a concensus that the Astros prefer to have the roof closed? What is the reason for this? Just what they're used to?
