Would he be too expensive for a 2 1/2 month rental?

Would need someone to define "too expensive" to know. He's still a rental 1B/DH so the price can't be too high. Who out there is going to overpay like they will for Contreras?

BoSox and the Mets

I was initially thinking no because he's just a rental... but there might be a bit of a seller's market for 1B/DH.
The Yankees are set at 1B, but could really use someone to replace Gallo/Marwin in their lineup. An OF would be a better fit, but I'd be shocked if they weren't asking about Bell.
Boston is also sort of scuffling at 1B between Dalbec and Franchy Cordero. Bell would be an upgrade.
The Rays could use some more offense, but they will not likely be buyers because they're the Rays and all.
The Phillies might also be calling with Harper out for a while. They could use a DH bat.
The Giants could also really use 1B/DH production and they are only 2 games back in the wild card race.
So... it could turn in to a bit of a bidding war driving up the price.
ETA: Mets might be looking for a DH as well.

It depends on the team. A bidding war for a rental happens when teams who are true contenders do it, not just hopefuls. So it would be more likely that the New York teams would look to overpay over the rest. Even then, you mentioned the Yankees' need in the outfield as greater. The Mets don't need a 1B so couldn't they just grab someone like Nellie Cruz for cheaper?

Yankees will grab Benintendi. Book it. They may also go after Castillo from the reds.

I think the Yankees end up with Benintendi.

Seems like the obvious play for them unless they want to give up more for someone like Ian Happ, and I'm sure they'll be sniffing around Castillo.

Okay, here's a hypothetical. Would you give up Chas and Enoli for Bell?

There ya go. I don't honestly see Bell bringing back much more than that in value. Chas actually has more value than we give him credit for.

Your proposition is likely not enough, because not much thought goes into it to accept it

Yes. Would that be enough? I think both have value for sure, but I doubt that would be the best offer on the table.

Let me rephrase the question:
Would a MLB outfielder under team control cheap for 4 more seasons who can play all three spots at average or above average defensively and is 11% above average in wRC+ and OPS+ over his first career 500 at bats be worth a 2 month rental by himself?

In a vacuum, yes. Absolutely.
Meanwhile, Dusty knows that the scouts need to see more Chas.

Interesting. Diaz starts at 1B for the second night in a row. It’s not because he had a big night last night because we know a big game usually gets you benched the following day.

I agree, i don't love him but we need to keep the few MLB level bench guys that we have. The bench gets real thin after him and Daiz.
I would like to get Hunter Brown up asap and see what he can do out of the pen. Odor being a wierdo and needing 2+ innings to get warmed up isn't going to work in October.
This is assuming the play off rotation is JV, Framber, Garcia, Javi, and some form of LMJ/Odor/JU.
