As if the Rangers' spirits weren't crushed enough last night, the Astros send Cereal Killer to the mound tonight in the second of this 2-game series (h/t LSUGrad9295 for the correction). No truth to the rumor that the Astros dispatched Andre Scrubb and Joe Smith (neither is on the Astros active roster) over to the Rangers bullpen to finish the game last night, though Allie LaForce was spotted wearing a Rangers jersey at Minute Maid Park last night.
Jake Kaplan of The Athletic cited this fact last night: Jose Altuve's walk-off grand slam was the Astros' first in 10 years. The pride of Tulane University, Brian Bogusevic, hit the last one, on Aug. 16, 2011, against another hated Astros rival in blue, the Cubs. Altuve broke in that year, and he went 1-for-4 in that game. Anuery Rodriguez got the win for the last-place Astros and Carlos Marmol took the loss. Let's take a trip into the wayback machine, shitty colors, caps, pinstripe uniforms and all.
Bogusevic slams the Cubs in 2011
Tonight's Rangers starter, Jordan Lyles, was also in the Astros dugout that night (he did not pitch -- Brett Myers got the start), having broken into the big leagues that year against those same Cubs. He picked up a win in his big-league debut May 31, 2011, then didn't win again until four days (Aug. 20) after Bogusevic's walk-off slam. He finished that 2011 season 2-8 with a 5.36 ERA. Ten years later, as Vin Scully would say, he's come full circle: He's won 2 games so far this season, his ERA heading into tonight is 5.37 and he's pitching for a last-place team.
Lastly, frick the Rangers.

Tonight we celebrate pride, hopefully with the tequila sunrise
The rangers on the hand will be exhausted from the forced handjobs
Bet the Astros over

The Astros are so lucky to play the Rangers like every other series…. The Rangers suck.

Actually it's just a 2-game series. White Sox show up for 4 starting tomorrow

Remember when we were all excited about his call-up and thought he was going to lead us from the abyss?

Played the Dodgers, Padres, Red Sox (twice) and Blue Jays since playing the Rangers last. Only sub 500 team we’ve played in the last three weeks is Minn.
frick your feelings.

Not even close to being true, but k.
Replace the Astros with A's, then you might be right.

I thought it was just 2 games too, but I got 1.5 hours of sleep last night so I'm not thinking straight.

Any word if Tucker still has the sniffles, or AIDS, or whatever ailment he came down with yesterday?

Tucker's case of stat-itis is only prone to players that produce

The Astros have one of the best and deepest lineups, with the perfect blend of speed, power and contact rate. Their starting pitching is strong, and their bullpen has been solid all season. One area they could improve is the back of the bullpen.

Figured I'd do a little digging...
Astros bullpen has a 4.25 ERA on the season. Good for 18th in MLB and 9th in the AL. Well that's not really solid.
Astros bullpen has a 1.32 WHIP on the season. Good for 18th in MLB and 9th in the AL. Well that's not really solid.
Astros bullpen has a .233 BAA on the season. Good for 14th in MLB and 6th in the AL. That actually is decent.
Astros bullpen has a 9.13 K/9 on the season. Good for 20th in MLB and 12th in the AL. Well that's not really solid.
Astros bullpen has a 4.02 BB/9 on the season. Good for 18th in MLB and 9th in the AL. Well that's not really solid.
So the Astros bullpen is better than league average in one relevant stat. Yeah, that's not really solid.

shite, that's good stuff.
Now take out the work that Astros starters like Odorizzi and Javier have done in long relief. Then take out what the closer has done (the actual solid part of the pen).
What you have left is a pile of middle relief.
