Astros go down the Aggie road (kinda) for their first pick today.
RHP Tyler Ivey from Grayson College (left A&M a year ago)
9-0 with 2.08 ERA and 28 BB/122 K in 78.0 IP
Baseball America ranked him the 5th best JUCO draft prospect before the season. Looks like he didn't nothing to make them look bad.

This has been an interesting draft for the Astros to say the least

Fangraphs writeup on draft picks from yesterday:
ETA: And a quick blurb on Ivey:
quote:
Same-year debutantes are rare because it requires the player to have a very specific skill set and a team motivated more by the big-league club’s success than they are with the prospect’s long-term development. We might have that intersection here, though, as Bukauskas’ 92-95 mph fastball and plus slider could pitch in a bullpen right now and Houston is chasing a ring. Perez is having TJ, so we won’t see him for a while. Martin could similarly move quickly in a ‘pen role if relegated there.

Low-90s, chance for above average changeup

A terrifying journey for those unfamiliar with it. I don't know much about Bray tbh

unlocator.com will hide your location for $5 a month.

I just can't see Bukauskas being rushed to the majors. That doesn't jive with Luhnow's style and until this recent stretch of over use, our bullpen has been fine.

So I could theoretically pair that with MLB.tv and not be considered in market for the Astros?

Apparently he started a near brawl last year with Texas by giving them a "horns down" symbol in a walkoff win.

Google "Astros live stream Reddit" and choose one of the game feeds

Smart kid, I'm intrigued

#Astros might have gotten the steal of the draft, Peter Solomon @NDBaseball Explosive 92-96 mph, + curveball, + slider. Let him try to start
Loading up on a ton of college arms.

Ohhhh this is Tyler Ivey?
I was a big fan of this kid and didn't really understand why he left because he was a big contributor for us as a freshman on what was a pretty deep team last year
Aside from the Horns down thing, he was real polished for a freshman from what I remember. Wasn't overwhelming with his stuff or velocity but threw strikes and would profile as a mid-back of rotation guy with a high floor

I think he just wanted to get guaranteed starts and drafted a year early, by the looks of it.

Probably so. Regardless I like the pick.

Might be about to trade off some upper minors pitching...

Speaking of drafted college arms, yall remember Thomas Eshelman? The guy we took from Fullerton a few years ago, notable for his microscopic walk rate. We sent him to Philly in the Giles trade. He's likely looking at a call up this year.
2.11 ERA with 59 strikeouts to 10 walks in 12 starts between AA and AAA this year. Too bad he's not in Fresno right about now.

I was a big fan of Eshelman. He will end up better than Appel and may end up better than VV too

The kid from Arizona seems like Kelton Hiura lite. This is an interesting group of players

Yes. Some devices can be directly set up, for others your router must be set up. The website includes directions. Devices that use location services such as smart phones will still be blacked out.
