Our fearless leader continues to push all the right buttons, bringing trusted reliever Brooks Raley in for the 8th last night in a 2 run game. What does he have up his sleeve tonight?

Since Pressly has pitched back-to-back nights, I wonder who the closer will be tonight, should the need arise.

Short, sweet, and to the point. I like it.

It should be Stanek, which means it will probably be Abreu or Joe Smith

Hopefully Stanek will be good to go despite throwing 30-something pitches a few days ago.

If not, Abreu looked sharp two days ago, but we all know he's a wild card.

Joe Smith sucks.

Luis Garcia should be good for a few innings, he hasn't pitched in a few days and we could always just leave Kent Emanuel in Odorizzi's spot in the rotation.

I don't ever remember who else is in the bullpen.

ETA: Brandon Bielak and Peter Solomon... neither has pitched since a week ago.

Dusty was dropping hints that Emanuel would start tomorrow. I missed it but Peter Solomon was recalled when Odorizzi went on the IL so he's in the pen

Current Pen

Abreu
Bielak
Garcia
Pressly
Solomon
Stanek
Raley
Smith

Side note Where's Bielak been? I actually forgot he was in the pen. He's pitched April 4th, 10th, 14th and 21st this year. I mean I guess he's a long man but its weird how little he's pitched considering we haven't gotten many innings out of starters.

I honestly forgot he was still on the roster. He’s pitched well when we’ve actually used him.

Probably my biggest Dusty complaint is that we have a bevy of interesting young arms like Emanuel, Bielak, Solomon, Garcia, Nivaldo Rodriguez, etc but he continues to go to the Joe Smith/Raley well in games. It will become a Click complaint too pretty soon if their performance doesn’t improve a lot and those guys are still on the roster in June/July

I was thinking about the trade deadline yesterday and we're likely going to have to thinking about Framber and Pedro Baez (if he can return) as our trade deadline upgrades. I don't figure we'll have much flexibility to make significant additions both from a payroll standpoint or a prospect capital standpoint.

Likely not. Maybe a guy on a cheap minor league deal on a bad team could be a minor upgrade but that’s probably it

Yeah another flyer on a Raley type. I mean maybe we find a solid reliever on an expiring deal but it'll be hard for us to be a major competitor in the trade market.

Ah yes, a Dr. Rumack situation for Dusty

April 22 he tweeted a video of himself throwing off flat ground with the caption "feeling good. Almost back."

Which one of those guys play centerfield?

They are paying those two decent money (DA) to wayyyy too much (LaForce) to ditch them so soon. And DA is starting to look useful again. At least his slider is a legit MLB pitch and he knows what he's doing out there as a former KBO starter. I can't imagine they'll keep Allie's lesser half around past early summer if he keeps sucking like this with low velocity.

Yeah, apparently Dusty said last night that Emanuel wasn’t available last night and wouldn’t be available today. That’s probably the sign he’s starting tomorrow. But it’s Dusty so who knows?

Leon is expected to start 80 percent of his minor-league games at shortstop this season with the rest coming in center field, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

Analysis
Per the report, Leon is grading out as a 70-grade runner with an 80-grade arm, which would allow him to profile at any position on the diamond. Leon has been well regarded mostly due to his potential to hit for power and average, but it's starting to sound like he might be a true five-tool prospect. He will open the year at Double-A, but as Callis notes, there is a clear path to the majors in center field if he can hit the ground running. Long term, he could be the heir apparent to Carlos Correa, who is a free agent this offseason/

Appreciate the post. Without many big names in the bullpen it's hard to keep up with some of them.

Makes sense with Leon. They know he can play CF already so why not see about SS? I think they planned to do this even before Pena's broken wrist.

Then they figure it out in the offseason about those 2 positions since Correa is clearly leaving and CF is clearly a void right now.
