Obie appears to be on course for a rehab start in the minors this week. If so, he can be in the rotation next week.

I assume Deduno gets a spot start in what would have been Wojo's next start. They could send Grossman down briefly for a spot starter like Buchanan or even Shirley though.

Let's be fair. The Astros have been so good, they earned some red-hot Hoes on the road.

I think they probably spot start Deduno and bring Obie back next week like you said. That should boost the rotation quite a bit swapping him for Wojo. I wonder if they would just send Hoes back down or if Grossman should be concerned about his spot.

Hoes will surely get a chance to impress, considering he is a good contact hitter. Hinch may want more options who don't K as much. That said, I think Hoes is the prototypical AAAA player, so I hope he plays well enough to up his trade value.

Agree with you on this. I like the move of adding him for the NL though as a PH option because of the high contact rate. I would take Grossman over him on the 25 man roster though if we are choosing.

I just don't subscribe to this thinking very much anymore. The guy was ranked pretty highly in a very strong Orioles organization. Think about who he was in the lineup with when he was called up... he had zero support in that lineup. In AAA, he's got some good bats around him. He's producing results. Perhaps this is a JD Mart type of thing?

Altuve
Hoes
Valbuena
Lowrie
Gattis
Carter
Castro
Springer
Marisnick

Yes ma'am!!

Of course... if I'm wrong, and the majority are right. That's just another day.

Hoes has no power and average at best speed. I mean, if you like him as a 4th OF, that's fine. But that's his MLB ceiling. JDM has power and that deal with the devil going for him.

Springer ++++Speed, +++Power.
Carter - Speed, ++++Power.
Gattis ---Speed, +++++Power.

Hoes will be fine in Left field. I'd prefer to add a .300+ hitter to the lineup than Rasmuses invisible ++Power with ++++++K-ability.

Get rid of some of the automatic outs, the power guys will start to see a few more fastballs in the zone. Theoretically.

Would rather see Tucker or Kemp in left than Hoes as two examples. Tucker will be a more productive hitter while Kemp can get on base and fly. They have plus tools. Hoes is just a guy.

So much hate for Rasmus on here. Dude hasn't been lights out or anything but he's a ++defender who's hitting .260, one of the higher averages on the team.

I've said it like 75% of the threads but I don't get it either. He's a great defensive OF and he's been decent enough at the plate so far this year. He strikes out a shite ton, but his OPS is also like 200-400 points higher than other unnamed individuals in our lineup who strike out a shite ton.

His one year deal is a fine placeholder until someone can come up, and if somebody like Tucker comes up and rakes I bet they can swap him to a contender at the deadline for something, even if it's small. I never really liked him that much before this year but you fricks have me defending him on a daily basis

It's obvious, to me anyway, that the deal was to hopefully flip him at the deadline if he had a bounce back year. Him and Thatcher but all we want to do on here is release them. Blows my mind.

Not hate really. I Just think we could've pulled someone from the farm to get Rasmus-like production.

The way I see it, the team is performng well. Agreed?

So, what are the weaknesses of the team?

My evaluation: high k rates with low OBP.

So, if we attempt to strengthen the team, what moves do we make? Move Gattis? Hell no- you gave up too much to get him. Move Carter? Hell no (not yet)- his production last year merits a long leash. Move Springer? Uhhhh, he's the future, right. So Springer stays.

Rasmus is the low hanging fruit. Simply my perspective. I'm not offended when others have differing opinions.

If there is a move that makes the team better this year and doesn't jeopardize the next 2-3 years, then you make it regardless of the players. there are only a couple of guys in the organization I would deem untouchable at this point and that is Keuchel, Altuve and Correa.

I agree with your list, but I would be some kind of pissed if McHugh was moved for anything. He's becoming one of my favorites with DK.

I agree with you and Ryno. However, Springer is on that list too. I know he is lost at the plate, but he is a legit player. He'll come around.

Carter, Gattis, Valbuena, Lowrie... all are candidates, IF, the return is there.

My statement of Gattis and Carter not on the chopping block was not a "they're untouchable"... it's more of a "who is the weakest link with the least upside".

Again, to me that is Rasmus. Define that as "hate" if you want. I define it as sound judgement.

I want to see Appel on the Astros MLB rotation before he gets moved. I also want to see McCullers mature and on the MLB roster before he gets moved. Dude has been lights-out since the gave him more innings as a starter.

Reality is most prospects don't reach their potential at the ML level. Outside of Correa I'd a team wants to rebuild and will take our other prospects for major leaguers I would do it
