JV and Abreu out here having an old man-off

Abreu hasn't played since Tuesday with a sore knee from sliding for a a foul ball and he's not expected back until Thursday or Friday.

With JV hurt it’s time to sign Bauer for league minimum

Luis Contreras is a guy to keep an eye on for a bullpen spot. Signed as a minor league free agent. 13.2 K/9 in 4 minor league seasons. Capped out at AAA last year with the Brewers. Having a nice spring so far.

Dubon is having a monster spring, two more doubles today.

Decent outing from HB. Fastball was 98 in the first inning then settled in at 94-95 the rest of the outing. Scattered 5 hits with 4 K's and 0 BB's.

Dubon his way to steal your girl. Just a casual .579 spring

He has the rising fastball and throws strikes. I saw give him a shot if he keeps performing, the little I’ve seen of him he kind of looks like another Seth Martinez with a little more swing and miss

Tayler Scott the Souf Affrican sinker/slider reliever has also been stellar.

Let’s say Dubon comes out and starts playing like he did last season and this spring

We stick with playing him 3 times a week in various positions?

Give him CF if Jake doesn’t produce I guess seems like the most likely option. It would get interesting if Jake was serviceable though

Obviously there will be injuries and it’ll sort itself out. Really, really nice to have a guy like that with defensive flexibility

If he were to deserve more PT, he could always play 2B while Altuve DHs since Yed doesn't want to just be the DH most of the time.

I'm curious about Mitsubishi's status. He's only pitched 2 innings so far.

He's a finished product. Good to go. No need to waste his bullets in practice games.

Montero will be ready to shoot himself in the foot on opening day.

Speak of the Devil. The Mitsubishi has crashed into the mound today

Walk

RBI Single/throwing error
RBI single

On a positive note, Javi had another good outing

4IP 2H 0R 0B 4K 63 pitches 40 strikes

Ok, I guess I'm finally in the mood to talk about roster spots. Yawn and stuff.

The middle relief options right now fricking suck. We have 3 lockdown guys and a couple of decent long relievers. In the middle? Garbage (Montero, Coleman, Sousa and even Martinez).

They should acquire another vet with a track record of dependable consistency. Well, as much as can be had from relief pitchers. They don't need a world beater, just another perfectly average guy for peace of mind.

As for the other black hole, the end of the bench...outside of Dubonnaroo and Carrot Top, the other options suck. We can live with one of Kessinger and Julks (no Smoky McPot around to overplay him) if the other spot is filled right to cover needs like left-handed bat and positional flexibility).

Brown should get to work and get 2 guys to fill these needs (reliever and bench/platoon bat). Who do you baws and bawette want?

Like Ryne Stanek for $4 million?

When I saw how the non Abreu-Pressley-Hader bullpen was shaping up, I was all for bringing Stanek back. I don't feel good about the non-closer portion of the pen.
