The gf and I will be departing from BR for Buccees Baytown in just a bit. Figure while we're in town we'll go watch JV mow down Boston. I don't post much, but if this is the end of the line, here's a big thank you to all you ardent DATers who keep me posted on my favorite team all year long. Go Stros!

It's time to turn the page. As an important part of the DAT community, I think arguing about game 4 should occur in the game 4 DAT thread. We need to focus on game 5. More particularly, my early prediction of Sox in 5 might come true.

At least know the rules if you’re going to complain. The ump can award bases or rule outs according to how, in his judgment, the play would have occurred without the interference.

The ball ends up back in play though, hence the single/double possibility. And not one of the fans reached over the yellow line, someone show me where this is the case. Both guys have their arms pulled back trying to make the play. The guy in the white is non-factor

Betts reached over and out of play.

I thought it was pretty clear it was in the stands. Calling interference is absurd, he went into the stands trying to make a play. They put way too much stock on the ruling on the field, an umps bang bang judgement call at a bad angle and distance shouldn't be treated as a sacred cow.

Okay, Homerun it is then!

According to MLB Rule 3.16, "When there is spectator interference with any thrown or batted ball, the ball shall be dead at the moment of interference and the umpire shall impose such penalties as in his opinion will nullify the act of interference."

The rule further states that "no interference shall be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk. However, should a spectator reach out on the playing field side of such fence, railing or rope, and plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball, then the batsman should be called out for the spectator's interference."

I remember buying those down 3-2 last year. I also remember thinking "guess I will get them just in case." Ended up at Game 5 last year, so you never know.

Oh you mean like how you kept talking about game 3’s catch with tony kemp, you kept bringing up in game’s 4 thread.

Which is why I said the argument should be whether or not betts was in or out of the field of play...

There was no double/single possibility. It was either catch, home run, or out by fan interference.

Damn. I'm not going to lie, you got me there. I was wrong and learned from my misdeeds. Let's not be a DAT community divided.

But there absolutely was if you’re saying they reached into play. I’m not sure how you can assume that ball is a home run any better than you can they reached into play.

If they’re saying they made contact in front of the fence it’s absolutely possible the ball hits the wall if Betts doesn’t come down with it.

Over the line or past the line? Over doesnt matter. It definitely wasnt a foot into the crowd.

That being said, I definitely thought he reached into the invisible plane and I hate Joe West even more now which I thought was an impossibility.

Gotta win 3 straight.

If somehow this ended up at Game 7, you would get some Keuchel, maybe some Morton, and probably even Verlander for a few batters if needed.

Bro it was like 2-3 feet up above the fence. That was either a robbed home run or a 2 run bomb without the fan there.

The only double possibility is it mookie brings the ball onto the field without catching it and even then, it could be an error.
