Good point. LSU is easily a favorite, and not a dark horse. Anything less than winning the SECW outright would have to be a disappointment for Tiger fans.
FSU is a very good shout. As mentioned the recruiting has been great and the athletes have always been there. It remains to be seen if the coaches can get maximize their potential and put a "Golden Age of Bobby" type team on the gridiron.
Arizona State might be one of the most talented teams you don't know about. They had a couple of late collapses last year, but they have plenty of talent and a coach that has tasted greatness (but maybe a lot of liquor since then).

I was going to say ASU, but I didn't want to say it first and sound like a complete homer. They bring back a ton of starters and upperclassmen. Should have won at least 8 games last year and should have beat Oregon, USC, and Wisconsin.

I think all this controversy might be something they could easily rally around this season. Especially now that Tressell's out and they have a new, young, hungry coach.
They lost their starting QB and they have a new coach with NO head coaching experience. In fact, the highest level coaching job he has held is co-DC.

My list of dark horses are as followed.
Florida St
Nebraska
Miami (why not?)
South Carolina is a good one
Wisconsin
West Virginia (you never know)

I am confused. LSU is probably one of the favorites and not a dark horse.
I wasn't trying to say that. I was asking people to think objectively. I know LSU is a favorite, not a dark horse.

I saw one of the "experts" on ESPN listing Northwestern as a dark horse.
I don't see it at all.

If they weren't bringing in a new QB this year, I'd argue that the Badgers should be a favorite.

I think they're going to miss Clay too. I think he made a lot of what White and Ball did possible.

Agreed.
Back to back weeks against Michigan State and Ohio State on the road makes or breaks their season, IMO.
A loss against Nebraska doesn't take them out of it, because it's so early.

Auburn was a dark horse last year... as some others have probably pointed out: teams like FSU, Nebraska, Alabama, LSU, or OU are not darkhorses because they are expected to be top ten... maybe top five teams
Arkansas or UGA from the SEC would be darkhorses... ASU from the PAC, and maybe Wiscy from the Big 10 (they were pretty damn good last year tho... maybe too good to be a real darkhorse)

Agree. But if they get Russell Wilson, they could be a force.
They will not miss Clay that much. I always thought the other two were better.

Florida
Texas A&M
Michigan State
ETA: Florida State as well, but many have already mentioned them in this thread.

I'm not saying Clay is better, I'm just saying they got additional production because teams had to respect what Clay did and gameplan for it. Not to mention they lose Watt and Carimi on both lines who were absolute studs. Clay/Watt/Carimi all had monster games in the win over OSU last year. We couldn't stop that fat frick Clay (from what I remember...the night is hazy after the 4th)

Nebraska
Nebraska is a dark horse because the offense is such a big question mark.
Who's going to be the #2 back after Rex Burkhead?
Are the recievers going to catch the football this season? On that point, are the recievers even going to be thrown the football this season?
Is Martinez going to run over the schedule like he did last year before he got hurt vs Mizzou?
Defense will be the strength. That's been a given since Pelini arrived at Nebraska.
It's the offense that has held that team back from championships.

I agree with this.

every major team has significant questions at some spots on their team
If you think a team is a top ten preseason team they are not a darkhorse IMO... I expect most people will have Nebraska top ten

Arizona State. They return everybody from a team that had wayyy to many close losses last year.
