Damn, the A&M/MSU Snow Bowl was 20 years ago tonight

Thinking about MSU playing on NYE today make me harken back to my memory of that infamous Independence Bowl. I was home for the holidays in Monroe staying with some buddies. We had plans to drive to Shreveport that night to ring in the New Year at Havana. Were meeting some friends there upstairs in the VIP section (I think).
We had gotten so shithoused the night before that we were oblivious in our hangovers to the rest of the world. I was the first one to get out of the shower, and I turned on the tv while I finished getting ready. It was a damn whiteout with the occasional flash of maroon. It took me a minute to realize what I was actually seeing. “Hey guys, remember how we’re supposed to be driving over to Shreveport in about an hour? Yeah, that ain’t happening.”
Great game, though. What little we could make out. Christ I can’t believe that was 20 years ago.

Rode knee boards behind Rebel Stadium behind a 4 wheeler. We were supposed to go out to the 13th Floor that night, but got snowed in at Hendry’s house.

Jason’s?
We trekked around about 10 mph trying to find somewhere to go. I think positive the only place that had more than like 10 people was the Bait Shack. Stayed about 5 minutes and went to a house party. Wasn’t the greatest NYE, but it damn sure was memorable. I’ll refrain from naming names, though.

I was around 10 years old, I remember looking over at my dad asking if it was going to snow that hard here since we lived in Monroe. Was awesome. Best snowstorm we ever had in Monroe.

I remember it well. Great game. One of the few I didn't attend back in the day. My kids were young and my wife was still alive. Good memories.

Random but I was in Monroe that night as well. We played football at my cousin’s friend’s house in the snow.
For a kid from Florida was like I was on the north pole.

Yep. He was living in the 2nd house behind the stadium at the time. Got snowed in with my now wife, we had been dating a couple months at the time. I remember he made us cheese toast for dinner and breakfast.

Damn, remember that like it was yesterday.
Watched the game in my parents’ house. They’re both gone, and we just sold the place.
Was holding my then-11-month-old daughter. Tonight I’m mixing her cocktails.
Tempus copulatum fugit, my friends.

My Latin is rusty, but I’ll try.
“Tempus” = time
“Fugit” = flies
“Copulatum” , copulate, sex, fricking
“Time fricking flies”?

I was at that game. It was unbelievable.

I regret missing so much of that season. I think I only went to a handful of games because I was driving 16 hours every other weekend to visit my (now) wife. Nothing topped that 1998 season (and I was there for every one of those games.)
