His most amazing stat was that his greatest season was his 10th. That alone is incredible!

You are aware that this was announced 6 months ago?

Yeah, I'm totally out of line starting a Curtis Martin HOF thread the night he was inducted because he was announced 6 months ago. I'm sure whatever thread was started 6 months ago is fresh on everyone's minds.

Didn't he have like 10 straight 1,000 yd seasons? HOFer in my book.

There's a Curtis Martin HOF thread on the first page.

ETA: IMO he wasn't great, just really good for really long.

He did. And that's fantastic, don't get me wrong. That's why I ask if he was truly a hall of famer, or was just the most durable back in NFL history.

Well just the eyeball test says he wasn't great like Brown, Sanders, Payton, Tomlinson, et al. But he's up there in the record books so he has to be in.

Yeah, and it's about his speech, not his career. You're tying too hard to Germans me.

I got two posts answering your question.

Dude, was this really necessary? It was a thread dedicated to his tear-jerker HOF speech. This is based on his qualifications that I am legitimately undecided about and thought it could be a good thread to discuss whether or not he is a HOF RB.

I'm talking about that in this thread. I'm saying I'm trying to talk to you about what you wanna talk about. Settle down.

Jerome Bettis had numbers that were very similar and he has a ring. I'm assuming he eventually gets in, but why do you think Martin got in before Bettis? Their careers ended the same season by the way.

Martin finished 2 spots higher on the all-time list, and Bettis never won the rushing title. I think Bettis definitely gets in next year.

Serious question. Edgerrin James had insane numbers all but his last two seasons. He led the AFC in rushing his first two seasons in the NFL. Is a all HOFer? I say no on the eyeball test, but I'm truly on the fence. He actually averaged more rushing yards per game and total yards from scrimmage that Martin.

Martin never won it until his 10th season. How insane is that?

I actually think yes, he will eventually get in. Probably not on first ballot, but people always look back on athletes with more respect after their career's over. He will get major kudos for getting so many yards on a Peyton Manning pass-happy team. And the fact that he won the rushing title as a rookie is amazing.

With the way RB's get broken down these days, that really is unbelievable

Pretty indifferent towards him. He never had the peak that a lot of HoF RBs reach, but he was consistent for a long time.
