People's beef with Castro is that he appears aloof and careless, especially since his talent is so obvious.

I like Castro. He was probably called up too early, but he's going to be a big part of the Cubs future. My hope is that he moves to 2nd and Baez and he bring us back to the Sandberg/Dunston days.

I know life is grim right now but how can you possible be excited about a guys first 27 games in A ball?

He's a college guy, he better be able to rape low A and A ball.

Because he's not hitting .200 in those games. He's destroying the baseball and moving up the system fast. That's why. It's what's supposed to happen, and thank God for it.

What I'm trying to say is at least, from a Cubs fan's standpoint, the norm is actually happening.

I've got plenty of problems with castro, in fact he really pisses me off...but the truth is there is no one ready to replace him.

I also think a bit of it is he's not hitting well right now (a problem i think falls on the FO trying to get him to hit for more power, but that's not too important to this discussion), and this goes to that angry mob quip i made. I wasn't a fan of it, but a lot of people laughed off some of his 'quirky' things when he was getting 200 hits per season...they always existed, only now the cries have gotten deafening. What is he, 22 years old...i expect more from him, but i'm not in the 'anything is better than castro camp.'

Just for giggles lets say baez was ready...he's got a ton of errors this season, do we really wnat to bring him up for the fans to turn their pitch forks on him? (Not talking about you, talking about the trade castro/sit castro crowd)

Not just A ball, High A ball.

seriously, would you rather us talk about beating the nats last night.

then it'd be "i know life is grim right now but do you really have to crow about beating the nats in one game"

You obviously have no understanding of that transition.

Baez is just as bad as Castro defensively, though. I feel like we'll end up with Bryant in left, Baez at 3rd, and Castro still at short.

While he may or may not become a star, for a team building for the future, why wouldn't Cub fans be excited about a possible building block of the future who's performing well?

Should the Twins not be excited about Buxton? The Stros with Correa?

Just starting with the basics:

1. Aluminum to Wood bats. Even with the BBCOR bats, this is still a transition.

2. Everyone you play against was drafted or signed as a FA. The talent pool is deeper, essentially a college/high school All-Star league.

3. It's now a job. The amount of games you play along with the travel has significantly increased. It takes time to adjust to this type of schedule and routine.

Bottom line is, just because you were all world in college, doesn't mean you should (how did the poster so eloquently put it?) rape low A and high A ball. Success at any point, especially for a prospect with as much expectations as KB has on him, is worth being excited for.

The best offensive player in college baseball better be able to rape low A. The talent isn't that great.

BR has him at the Arizona Rookie League, Boise (A-) and Daytona (A+). Whatever that means.

Boise is short season A ball.

Kane county is Low A

It's splitting hairs, but if someone is going to ask me not to be excited about what he's done I'd ask that they know where he's done it.

You know, being a dick to a dick sort of thing.

ha...It's been a black hole since gary gaetti left.

While we've got all the regulars here, thoughts on Arsmendy Alacantara.

As i understand he'll be rule 5 draft eligible after this season, so the cubs will without a doubt put him on the 40 man roster to keep him. With barney basically swinging a pool noodle at the plate, how long until we see him in chicago?

also he stole home...which was pretty great.

Not sure. I'm a huge Barney fan, I hope he can figure it out at the plate.

I'm a big fan of his defense, but he's a middling talent with a great glove and pretty solid baseball IQ. There's a place for him in MLB, but I don't think it'll be with the Cubs. Arismendy Alcantara will get a look at 2B, but even then he might be blocked if Bryant and Baez get to Chicago at 3B and SS, respectively.
