Crazy to see a conference matchup in round 2...

They usually try to avoid this in the NCAA Tourney. It’s odd watching Minnesota and Mich State right now.
I wanna say this happened between Cincy and UConn when they were both in the Big East. Maybe 2011 or 2012?
I wonder what bracket snafu caused this.

MSU being put in the east didn't help either.
Eta: had Maryland won potentially another big 10 match up (MINN/MSU vs MD)

Why not flip Minnesota and Seton Hall? I don’t get it.

Then flip both teams with Wofford-Seton Hall

The big 10 had 7 teams in the tourney, so it was kinda inevitable

The bylaw is 9 plus they can’t play until Sweet 16 so it was a huge snafu
Reason UConn Cincy played there were 9 Big East teams in the tourney

Committee was stuck. Sparty played Minnesota once during the season, so they are allowed to play in the second round at the earliest. Eight teams in the tournament, all between 2 and 10 seeds...virtually impossible to avoid this.

11 seed Marquette beat 3 seed Cuse I wanna say 6 or so years ago in the 2nd round, they were both in the big east at the time
