He won a ws his rookie year as a 19 year old reliever with the Mets. Pitched 25 more seasons in the majors and never appeared in another WS.

He had control problems, but he did pitch for some mediocre teams. Even when the Astros were good, they had a weak bullpen. And Dave Smith probably cost him 50 wins because he specialized in giving up enough runs to let the other team tie the game or take a lead, then sitting back and benefiting from an Astros rally.
