COVID could force NBA expansion. — Silver: we’ve dusted off our market studies

TLDR: Nothing is decided, or on the front burner. League has lost $1.5 billion due to the pandemic. Expansion teams (probably 2) would pull minimum $1.5b each.

Or you know, cut the WNBA

You’d be taking away the most loyal fan base in the world. I think they’ve reached triple digits now. In fact the WNBA players should be making nba salary to truly combat sexism

How can you do that with a reasonable travel schedule? Mexico city and what other city in this hemisphere?
Seattle and Mexico city? The city of Seattle is a nuthouse politically and they're going to have a hard time getting them to okay any major arenas/facilities.
A Las Vegas team?

I don't see the public clamoring for more NBA games.

I think a reduced schedule would help tremendously. Make each game mean more and make them larger events.

Seattle and Las Vegas HAVE to be locks for this. Seattle because Seattle, Las Vegas because it’s a rapidly growing city with international appeal, but more importantly international cash flow.

Then move New Orleans and Memphis to the East

Maybe Bezos will buy in but I'm serious when I say the politics of Seattle are quite nutty right now. I really do think their people will fight against it. Even Amazon has moved out of there.

Amazon bought the naming rights for the Kraken’s new arena and are calling it “Climate Pledge Arena”.

So the NBA lost money AND ratings are down, yet you think people want to fork out 1.5 billion for a team with no established fan base or market?
There are so many competitive teams these days that we need MORE NBA teams.
Adam Silver is so full of crap his eyes must be brown.
quote:
"One of our focuses as the league office is always on how do you create better competition,” Silver said. “So that's one of the things that we continue to think about as we consider expansion. It's an economic issue and it's a competitive issue for us. So it's one that we'll continue to study.

Hundred bucks says the pandemic ain’t the only reason they’re bleeding money. The league fricking sucks.
There’s no America’s team, no bad boys, no real rivalry. They’re all just flopping and shooting threes, singing kumbaya and paying below average talent 30 mil a year. It’s a shite product.

No SuperSonics, no care. Bring em back

The NBA is getting kicked from all sides right now.
China is still pissed Morey called them out on their Hong Kong bullshite.
The NBA going so hard left on social issues pissed off a lot of people, doubly so considering how they took a pass on China after Morey’s comments.
And the handling of all the Covid bullshite took the cake. Putting a bunch of teams in a bubble at Disney to where there was little to no attendance and no “home” fans helped turn the playoffs into a bigger joke than normal.

Yep. The 2010's were the worst decade in NBA history.
