In order to inspire teams to put competitive rosters out there.

quote:

In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between two divisions based on their performance for the completed season. The best-ranked teams in the lower division are promoted to the division above, and the worst-ranked teams in the higher division are relegated to the division below. In some leagues play-offs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings. This process can continue through several levels, with teams being exchanged between levels 1 and 2, levels 2 and 3, levels 3 and 4, and so on. During the season, teams that are high enough in the table that they would qualify for promotion are sometimes said to be in the promotion zone, and those at the bottom are in the relegation zone (or, colloquially, the drop zone)

That'd be great, but it won't happen

MLB fans aren't loyal enough for that to work. You'd just have Minute Maid Park abandoned in two years.

No. But I wish college football adopted this model.

Absolutely not. It is not even remotely feasible either.

Pretty much none of the minor league teams could handle being in the Majors. Talent wise, stadium capacity, the facilities, etc.

Not to mention, the minor league teams are affliated with the MLB club. The minors are about development, not organizational promotion.

The reason relegation works and is badass is simply because it is an established institution. You either start your league with relegation or not. No way you could ever implement it.

Would never work for college football. Too much turnover in athletes every year.

Bingo 85% of the best players in the minors are property of the major league teams. This would never work, would the Yankees get to be in the same divison as their AAA team? Would the Omaha Royals get to call up people from Kansas City?

I have a feeling that within ten years the Chicago Cubs would win the AA World Series.

It would definately work in basketball, I think if u added some more clubs it would not only add to the NBA total revenue and tanking would go away.

So, you're saying the NBA teams don't like to make fun of each other as much as MLB teams?

It would happen in 2015. They would sweep Miami.

In soccer, their "minor league teams" play in really low divisions aren't usually allowed to get up in the first division. It wouldn't work with minor league teams.

Unless you would want it to be like a 15-team league.
