I personally would rather have two 1 or 2 seeds in the title game than a Cinderella team. Last year's title game was a classic.
The two aren't mutually exclusive. Cinderella early, chalk late. Honestly, most upsets in the first round are a function of this simple fact: 4 and 5 seeds aren't that good. The 1st weekend belongs to David. The Final Four belongs to Goliath. There's no conflict there. In fact, those early upsets clear the way for the big time Final Four.

It's hard to argue these bubble teams don't matter when 11/12 seeds have made the Elite 8 and Final 4.

They went on the road, they played the big boys, they put together a great record. But they didn't win their conferences tournament, even though they won the regular season title.
Will the non P5 conferences ever eliminate conference tournaments in order to get their best team in the NCAA tournament?

Syracuse and Tulsa shouldn't have been in. The fact that Syracuse got in makes you think they REALLY weighted the games where Boeheim wasn't there heavily.
Take those two out, and replace them with two of South Carolina, Monmouth, and St. Bonaventure.

Would have to expand the field to 96.
But even then, that would create an unknown amount of at-large bids, going into the season, because you wouldn't know if conferences (mainly small and mid-major) would produce 1 or 2 automatic qualifiers.
Would kind of be tough.

Meh, the title game was a 7/8 matchup just two years ago. Two 6 seeds and an 8 seed have also won it all.
Someone on Reddit did a breakdown of teams seeded 4 or lower to make the Final Four, and it was shocking how they get absolutely BONED by officiating in the Final Four. They on average have something like 7 more fouls and shoot 12-15 less FTs. It's crazy how obvious the bias gets toward the top seeds at the end.

They should. It's ridiculous to me that 68 teams can compete for the national championship and the best 68 teams might not necessarily take part. A regular season title is far more impressive and should matter much more than a few days in March.
