Oh, and let me quote Joe Sheehan, becaue I beat this drum every year:
quote:
The committee did it again, matching up non-BCS schools aggressively and keeping them away from BCS schools. UNLV/Northern Iowa. Butler/UTEP. Temple/Cornell. Richmond/Saint Mary’s. The committee is taking one of the best things about the tournament – that the big guys have to play the little guys on a neutral floor – and destroying it, aggressively so. Defenders of the bracket and the committee will always point out that this isn’t intentional, but after it happens year-in, year-out, I simply don’t believe them. You can’t keep playing off the non-BCS schools one another every year and pretend it’s not a strategy. It very clearly is one, and it’s designed to prevent the possibility of the schools from smaller conferences showing that the main difference between them and the middle of the BCS leagues is home games. The committee and the NCAA should be embarrassed.

Syracuse's draw is equally as easy as Duke's. Cuse has an easier round 2 match up, their 3 seed is worse, but their 2 seed is much better. But no one is going to talk about their region being easy, while Duke will be singled out.
Much like people will harp on Duke's free throw advantage over GT, while Kansas and Kentucky had extremely comparable disparities in their games this weekend.
However, I don't understand why Kansas's bottom half of the bracket is so damn tough. Their round 1 to Sweet 16 is fair enough, but they should get an easier Elite 8 match up. Same with Kentucky. Cuse and Duke should switch two seeds with Kansas and Kentucky.

quote:Because Syracuse earned an easy draw. Yes, they have a pretty easy draw as well, but Duke's is easier AND Duke was the more borderline 1-seed. I have no problem with Syracuse getting an easy draw.

quote:It's not right. The bottom half of the Midwest is the strongest 8-team pod in the field. Probably the best 2 and 3 seeds, not to mention some really good "middle" seeds.

quote:Agreed. The top two 1-seeds have MUCH tougher draws than the lower 1-seeds. I think Duke's draw, especially, is a cakewalk to the Final Four, but Syracuse has to be happy as well.

It's easier shorthand than major/non-major.

maye it's to make sure a few mid-major teams get to the second round?

i wouldn't gripe too much about duke, they'll win their first 2 like usually then lose in the sweet 16.
My gripe is my gouchos at 15? wtf???

I think that the last 8 regular season games and the conference tournament are the most important factors for the NCAAs. Syracuse lost their last 2 games. Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky all won their conference tournaments.
I'm not sure why Syracuse deserved to get an easy road when they closed the worst of all the teams. And while I would say that the Midwest and East are certainly tougher than the West and South, the biggest difference is the quality of the 2 seeds. I think the road to the Elite 8 is comparable for all of the top seeds, but they screwed up with the 2 seeds big time.
While the midwest is tough, it's not like Kansas has to play GTown, Tennessee, and OSU. They have to play at most one of them. The bottom half of the Midwest should be the most pissed, not any of the other 1s or WVU, which was gift-wrapped an Elite 8 (no problem with that).
