Mount Union closes Salem's Stagg era with a shutout

How fitting is it that Salem’s 25-year relationship with the NCAA as the site of the Division III football championship ended Friday with Mount Union as the champion.

In the 25 Stagg Bowls in Salem, 20 featured Mount Union as a participant. The Raiders considered it a home away from home.

I remember watching one of the Stagg bowls a few years ago and looking at Mount Unions schedule. They were winning every game by 50-60 points and usually only allowing points in the second half. Just unreal how good those teams were relative to the competition.

80's and 90's Nebraska.

They should have won 5 straight in the 90's too. Cake damn close as well.

Mount Union is in my hometown of Alliance, Ohio. I know a lot of guys that played there when they were beginning to get good.

Holy shite, I didn’t even realize they made the final this season. I turned off the semi-final game last weekend when they were getting housed in the 3rd quarter up in Wisconsin. Crazy comeback. Such an incredible program there.

So looking back, MU hasn't lost a regular season game since 2005.

1994 was the last time they lost more than once in a season

Mary Hardin Baylor is starting to be the clear 2nd best team in D3. It's them/Mount Union/Whitewater in the final 3 every year now it seems
