Texas, Alabama and Utah would have been the at-larges, since Ga Tech would not have qualified.
GT wasn't even the ACC champ in 2008, just the highest rated team in the BCS. I posted on the first page of this thread who the conference winners were and who the at-larges would have been with your original method of BCS conference champs + next two highest ranked teams

You'd have a NCAA selection committee determing the at large bids, much like basketball.
And this magical committee would have no bias? Have you seen the horrible job basketball and baseball have done with national seeds in the past?

quote:well, in the current system and in my system, that is not the case...they do have a chance before the season starts, albeit a slim one if they have scheduled two or less games against BCS conference schools, like most non-BCS schools do.
Well, if they tell them that they literally have no chance of winning the national title before the year starts, then at least they know before the season starts.

did we not deserve it?
Yes and no. But that's why I don't like expansive playoffs or taking a team that wins a conference or division automatically just because they won something. We had the 3rd best record in the SEC, would should not have gotten a 2nd chance to win it. The SEC West was garbage in 2001. Finishing 2nd in the East was a greater accomplishment.

they do have a chance before the season starts
ETA: Many have gone through the season undefeated so far and have been given no chance.

We had the 3rd best record in the SEC

And here come the frustrated personal attacks. Woohoo
not frustrated, but if you can figure out that West Va is a better opponent the ULM, or that Va Tech is better than Toledo, then you are either just being an arse or do not know what you are talking about, sorry. Going 11-1 in the Sun Belt is a lot easier than going 11-1 in the SEC or big 10,

I say we make the entire season one big single elimination tourney. THAT would be awesome!!!!!!

They all have a chance. It might be very slight, but technically no one is eliminated. The 16 seeds in the BB tourney have no chance. Its silly to pretend otherwise. They play to make the tourney. Which they make by winning their conference.

I think that West Virginia is better than ULM and what-not but SOS doesn't really have much to do with my argument. No place outside of the NCAA uses it to determine a championship unless maybe it's about the 8th tiebreaker in some league's playoff format.

They all have a chance.

No #16 seed in the Basketball tourney has won a game, let alone made the Final how do they have a chance? The lowest seed to make the Final Four is #11.

quote:I don't advocate the NCAA Basketball playoff format either (way too many at-large teams). However, the 16 seeds are put on the same court as the 1 seeds with the same rules governing the game they are playing and, well, may the better team win.
how do they have a chance?

I got to run. I know what I want will not be implemented any time soon but, for some reason, college football is still by far and away my favorite sport.
