The Los Angeles Clippers are hoping to sign superstars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin to max contracts this offseason, according to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times. Both players are under contract for next season but have early-termination clauses and would become unrestricted free agents if they exercise them. Paul could sign a five-year deal for $205 million, while Griffin is in line for a five-year deal worth $175 million.

However, Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders reported in February that Paul and the Clippers had already verbally agreed to a max contract extension, while Kevin Arnovitz of ESPN.com reported on Friday that "Sources close to the Clippers say that they expect Paul to re-sign with the Clippers." As for Griffin, "The Clippers and Griffin hope to work out a maximum deal, according to NBA officials who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter," according to Turner. And Kyler reported in January that "Sources close to Griffin said recently that he is not remotely interested in changing teams and they expect the deal process to go very smoothly and quickly this summer."

Would be smart. There is no reason to break up the team. They just need a couple pieces to be legit contenders.

Committing $76 million yearly to two guys who have struggled to stay healthy and even when they have been together haven't gotten your team out of the 2nd round.

Its not my money but If I were Ballmer I wouldn't want that massive payroll + the absurd tax payments for a team that isn't a contender and is 2nd in their own city in terms of fan support

They can't add anyone though. They will have no cap space and outside of their Big 3 they have no valuable trade chips

Which is why they should get rid of DeAndre Jordan. You can find a suitable replacement and spend that money to upgrade the roster in another area.

No reason to get rid of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

You kind of have to try to resign them. Unless you're content tanking like crazy next year. Paul will still have trade value, Griffin is more questionable because of his injury history. Putting the kind of core three/four guys they have together isn't easy, they should axe Doc and hire a real GM if they want to make major changes

No one is going to give a superstar player or super high pick for DeAndre as he can opt out after next season IIRC.

Also If they re-sign Reddick, Blake and CP3 you are looking at $96 million between those 3 guys + Jamal at $14 mil and Austin at $11.7 mil so you are have $120 million committed to 5 guys so even if they pawn off Deandre for future picks it won't give them cap flexibility

If you were Ballmer, you'd want your team to stay somewhat relevant. Keeping those two keeps them relevant. They aren't going to be championship contenders, but that's better than being a lottery team.

I heard today that they are likely to sign extensions, but they will also likely take visits. And who knows what will happen if you get someone like CP3 in front of Pop or Griffin in front of Boston execs...

So your plan would be to let them walk for nothing, start tanking for picks, and hope to sign FA's not as good as Paul or Griffin?

Take what you can get for him. And why are you acting like Reddick, Crawford, and Austin Rivers are untouchable?

The only untouchables in my opinion are Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Everything else should be explored.

They could be with a better roster around Paul and Griffin.

I don't think it's realistic for them to keep Reddick if they resign CP3 and Griffin. Reddick would hold so much leverage over them he could ask for anything, and they'd have very few choices outside of signing him to something ridiculous if they wanted to add anyone to replace him.

CP is the State Farm guy. He isn't leaving the land of endorsements (LA) to go anywhere.
