Chip Kelly ready to add his first QB....former Oregon QB Dennis Dixon

Baltimore Ravens practice squad quarterback Dennis Dixon has spent the past week and a half impersonating Colin Kaepernick to give defenders a taste of the San Francisco 49ers' read-option attack. It will likely be his final contribution to the team.
According to Comcast SportsNet Philly, there are "strong indications" that Dixon could be reunited with former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly as soon as next week. Dixon's practice-squad contract expires after Super Bowl XLVII, allowing him to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles shortly thereafter.
Regarded as a Heisman trophy candidate and potential first-round pick before tearing his ACL during his senior season with the Ducks in 2007, Dixon already has a firm grasp of Kelly's spread offense.
Full story.
Hopefully this ends up better than when Spurrier came into the league and immediately signed Wuerffel.

They might win 3 games next year.

If he signs Vince Young to go with Dixon and Vick, he may be able to have enough spread-style QBs to get past week 7 of the season.

this thread is funny
in an article where dixon is being used to mimic a QB in the super bowl, using a system similar to the system that kelly runs, it's assumed that kelly's offense won't work in the NFL

I remember Dixon being somewhat decent in his few starts with the Steelers. Am I misremembering?

It's not a joke about Kelly's offense, it's a joke about the Eagles' O-line.
Michael Vick looked like one of his own pitbulls after a few of those shots.

Came to post that.
His offense is in the Super Bowl and people are saying his won't work with a QB that knows it well and can throw to Shady, Desean, and Maclin.

They are trying to beef it up and Kelly's offense has so much misdirection/fakes that it wouldn't be nearly as bad on the QB.

The opposing defense only has to be right once or twice to seriously frick up the QB's day.

I thought Dixon would be a great fit when I heard about this hire. I've always been impressed with him when I watched him play.

I think he was okay. After the Steelers released him, took him a while to get picked up. Ravens put him on their practice squad, cut him, and signed him back later. I don't think he's a starting QB in the NFL, but I guess we'll see what Kelly does with him. Might just be a camp body.

The Eagles will be fun to watch, whether they become the Oregon of the NFL or if they go down in flames(again).

I didn't know Chip Kelly ran the pistol

Camp Body would be good. It would expedite the starters knowledge of the offense if they had someone competing with them and showing them how its done.
Where's Darron Thomas these days? And look out to see if he drafts the current QB when he can in a couple years if these don't work.

Thomas is in the CFL I think.

He wasn't tearing it up like rookies are these days, but for his league experience and the injury he was coming off of, he didn't do too shabby.
I think he would do well under Kelly in the NFL.

This will end similar to Pat White's career for Dixon

What exactly makes their offenses similar? Because they run the read option now and then? Would you say LSU's offense with JJ at QB was similar to Oregon's offense?
