You also wanted to keep Garza and Feldman last year.
Not really sure I ever said I wanted to keep Feldman long term but whatever. And i never really said keeping Garza is great. I said they won't win many games without him last year, but clearly the Cubs got the better end of that deal.
They have to trade assets that aren't in the long term plans.
Is that how it works??? No kidding, I along with several other Cub fans here would like to see Samardzija be a part of the long term plans of the Cubs is what I am saying. I don't really think the Cubs are too terribly far off from being a very competitive team. That shouldn't be too hard to understand. Yes prospects are great, but they are also unproven. Samardzija isn't unproven. Obviously if the Cubs get a top 30 prospect that is a pitcher that would be great.

Theo: no plans to send olt to minors. I'm indifferent about this.

A lot of the swings he takes look like he can't even see the ball.

I hope that's not the case. To me looks to have to confidence when he swings. Kind of like a golfer that has lost it for a round. Just no confidence in anything.

Obligatory Kris Bryant 2 HR game bump
Dear God

BUT, in 4 games he's only hitting .188 with 8 K's. His only three hits are HR's (good!), but he has no walks (bad!). Methinks there is nothing to worry about here with the K's and low average. Yesterday's game was a 2-4; perhaps the start of something for him at Iowa.

Ah...didn't know that
Hopefully he'll cut those down.
This is the most excited I've been in a while now.

He's going to strike out. But, as he matures as a hitter (he's already polished, per reports), he'll learn to take walks. I just don't think I'm concerned at all about his approach. At AA he had highish K rates, but he destroyed everything he touched.
Let's just say I'm more worried about Javy Baez's K-ing too much than I am about Kris Bryant.

Kris Bryant with a BB and HR so far today for Iowa.
Baez has a single and Alcantara is 2 for 2.

So far today, Kris Bryant has a HR and a BB. That's 27 HR's in 2014 for Bryant. This one came off Zach Lee.
Alcantara has another hit.
Tsuyoshi Wada is pitching well so far through 4 IP.

I don't hear much about him...do the Cubs see him as a future 2nd baseman (I assume that's the position he's playing)?
Posted on 6/24/14 at 1:31 pm to bwallcubfan
From what I can tell, it's CF/utility.
BTW, that's two hits for Alcantara and his average is up to .290.

yea if someone knocks our socks off and makes a deal making it worth it to trade luis you'll see AA called up to play 2nd shortly after.

You think he's going to play 2B? I sort of see Valbuena HAVING to stick around to play 2B and 3B while Alcantara moves to the OF to start the renaissance.

5 hits in AAA, 5 HR's
If he hits anything less than a HR next inning, they should probably think about sending him back to AA to figure things out.

yea, if luis is traded. If not then you can see if he's athletic enough to play CF and stop the revolving door there. But that'll slow his arrival date.
