Astros fan dropping in here. man Shwarber looks like the real deal at the plate. How in the world can they send him down? I know they want to have him work on catching and his value would be through the roof as a catcher, but does anyone here believe that is where he will ultimately end up? Seems like a left fielder to me that should be playing right now. There is a shifting of the guard in the majors right now with awesome young players coming up at young ages.

How do ya'll feel about him staying up?

It really doesn't matter what we think. The Cubs are convinced he's a catcher. So be it...they have this position player out of college prospect market cornered.

“No,” manager Joe Maddon said flatly. “Unless we move to the American League.”

“We’re convinced more now than ever that he’s going to catch and catch for a long time in the big leagues,” team president Theo Epstein said. “He’s thrown out a lot of runners lately. He threw out Buxton. More importantly, pitchers love throwing to him. They’ve got a lot of trust in him.”

Other than the catching stuff you mention, this year isn't our year...yea it's great, but no one ever really expected this to be the year the cubs started contending. And I see no reason to sacrifice the possibility of having a great catcher to win a couple more games in 2015 and maybe make a WC2 spot.

Sure we'll make a move or two at the deadline to try to make the playoffs, but not change the development schedule for a promising player.

I didn't see Anthony Rizzo being this kind of leader and this kind of hitter when the Cubs got him from San Diego. He has been flat out awesome.

You got that from his batting stance?

I love this Rotoworld blurb:
quote:

Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 and hit his first big-league homer Thursday off the Indians' Danny Salazar.

Cool. He's still going back to Triple-A. Schwarber hasn't played a single inning in the outfield this year and the Cubs know he's not ready to catch in the majors, so he's getting sent down even though it looks like he can help right now.

Theo, Maddon, and Cubs catching coach all rave on Schwarber's improvement behind the plate.

He's one of two catchers EVER to throw out Byron Buxton. If you missed his 1st MLB hit, that dude can fly.

Schwarber is saying he wants to catch, he's determined to be great at it.

So here's where it gets interesting. Ross is under contract next year, Montero has another 3 years. We know Ross is going no where and Schwarber will need a roster spot as soon as next year.

Montero is odd man out. Good thing he is a great trade chip.

I didn't look those up, was going off my dome.

I hope they extend and pay Russell, Bryant, & Schwarber.

Perfect time for lil Touls to become a Cubs fan. I grew up watching Dawson, Grace, Sandberg and Maddox. He gets these guys

Is Lester going to go on strike if his boyfriend is let go? Not much he can do about it at this point.

David Ross is here only because he's beardgrit and he's good in the locker room. That can't be measured on the field. Maybe someone can kneecap him and they put him on the 60-day DL so he can be off the field, but still in the dugout, doing class clown veteran presency things.

Mr. Intangibles.

h/t to desipio

Maybe we can just hire him to be a coach...instead of a coach parading as a player.
