Easier to judge other fans when your team has won 5 championships in the past 20 years.
You do realize I have been a Spurs fan since well before Tim Duncan was drafted, correct?

Spurs did pretty well for themselves in the early 90s as well.
I'm saying, you haven't exactly suffered.

Now you're reframing. Can't trot out the "5 titles" retort then backtrack, come on
Also posted our worst single-season record ever in the 90s, ijs

That was never my contention. Spurs have always been a historically strong squad (hell, SA has a winning record vs. every other active NBA franchise, if I'm not mistaken, and has only missed the playoffs a handful of times).
They just weren't championship caliber until the past score or so.

quote:How old are you? I figured you were in your mid-30's. So if your 35, then Duncan was drafted when you were 15. Therefore most of those pre-Duncan days, you were probably too young to really your independently derived fanhood.

I'm not sure what this means
My parents are both huge basketball fans, so I got into it at a very early age. Dad's a Lakers fan, my mom was bigger into the Pistons. We lived in SA most of the 90s, so that was my team--started rooting for them in the Del Negro/Rodman days and attended games in HemisFair Arena with my dad. He used to make me practice reading by going over the sports page in the San Antonio Express-News
Never went to a game in the Alamodome, though

I'll let you in on a shameful secret. When I was little, my dad and I cheered for UM out of spite of my uncle, my aunt's ex-husband (not sure why though). Although FSU was my favorite (Warrick Dunn is still my favorite athlete).
So I have no room to talk. In fact, it's very shameful as an OSU graduate.
Now that I think about it--although I'm less ashamed about this--I used to hope Tennessee would lose too when I was younger.

Yeah my sports fandom is kind of eclectic since we moved around so much. He just ended up getting stationed in SA like three different times. Spurs fandom is pretty much the only thing I didn't follow my parents on.

Oh that's a very black mark on your record, sir
In the interest if full disclosure, though, I'll have you know that somewhere out there are photos of a young TbirdSpur wearing a Hook 'Em Horns t-shirt. My dad's best friend here in SA is a Texas Ex and they thought it was funny to gift each other's kids with rival swag pending the outcome of the A&M/Texas game
His friend is a really good guy btw. Ended up basically buying my Aggie ring for me.

Yeah my wife would be cool if our son ended up going to texas. She wasn't raised in the Aggy cult like I was so she's not as brainwashed
