So is "deserving."

What does that even mean? Being undefeated? Winning a "tougher" conference? Winning more games?

This.

At the end of the day, I feel like the Committee does a solid job with their mission statement: which is to get the four best teams into the playoffs.

At the time, I would have jokingly said UCF should have gotten in over Alabama in 2017, but Bama proved they belonged by winning the whole damn thing. I also argued for TCU or Baylor over Ohio State in 2014, but the Buckeyes too proved me wrong by winning the whole thing.

In 2018, I would have vouched for UCF over Oklahoma if their QB hadn’t been injured at the end of the season.

But, while I feel the BCS made a couple mistakes in whom they picked, while the committee seems to be completely devoid of any intellectual honesty with regards to what justifications they give in their rankings, they have not yet failed to give a deserving top 4.

I fear this year that they have been given a near impossible task with the complete lack of marquee OOC games, extremely varied schedules, and inconsistent rosters. I mean, the biggest OOC game this year was UL over Iowa St or Coastal Carolina over BYU.

As a result, there’s a ton of undefeated teams, when there’s rarely more than 3 or 4. We have Coastal Carolina at 11-0, Alabama and Notre Dame at 10-0, Cincinnati at 8-0, San Jose St at 6-0, and USC, Ohio St, and Buffalo all at 5-0. Plus, there’s still Clemson and ULL, each at 9-1, waiting to play Notre Dame and Coastal Carolina in the ACC and Sun Belt Title Games, respectively. On top of that, you have 7-1 Texas A&M, 6-1 Indiana, and 6-1 Northwestern just chilling there with no Big 10 Title Game.

With the shortened and inconsistent season, there is just not enough tape or competition against one-another to make as educated a guess as the committee normally gets to make.

Nevermind the top 4. The real travesty right now is Iowa St. being at 7 and C. Carolina being at 13, when they beat 2 P5 teams and the G5 team that beat ISU by 3 scores.

iowa state being ranked ahead of coastal makes absolutely no sense and is embarrassing.

They shouldn’t be ranked ahead of Coastal or ULL.

The best thing to happen this year would be Northwestern beating an overated OSU and ND beating Clemson again......
