Why is there no sports betting in Louisiana casinos?....does it have something to do with the term "gaming" when the boats were brought in? TIA

If Mississippi legalized sports betting, the MS Gulf Coast would no longer be the deucehole it currently is.

Because the NFL and NBA won't allow it to happen. Don't have a pro sports franchise in Vegas now do we? There was a time long ago that sports books out there wouldn't take action on UNLV athletic events. I am not sure about the policy today. If the Saints or Pels happen to pack up and move, it's a possibility that it could happen but those teams are not going anywhere

LSU, it's too close of a radius in MS. That's how much the NFL and other leagues don't want it.

Which is completely retarded. You can bet on a game at the damn stadium in Europe. Hasn't caused widespread cheating yet.

Full fledged sports betting is only legal in Nevada, and in Delaware under very limited circumstances.

Because it is prohibited under state law. Yes, it is legally because of the definition of the word gaming.

You can't bet on sports regularly anywhere but Nevada. This has been the case for decades.

Montana is no where close to any pro team and it is illegal there too because the Federal Government won't allow it. Sure the NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA et al don't WANT it and they work with politicians, donate to their campaigns to keep it illegal, but they themselves can not stop it. Only the Feds can. New Jersey is trying to get it changed (and rest assured the NFL will not leave that area if they are successful. If NJ succeeds then expect that to be legalized pretty much every where much quicker than weed

This was the train of thought for a long time but Adam Silver (new NBA Commissioner) has spoken out about legalizing gambling and I there is believe that the other leagues are getting behind the idea as well.

The fact is that sports betting has become far less taboo in sports media and in society as a whole and there is far too much money changing hands illegally for them not to start making changes soon. A law expert on the issue was on the ESPN beyond the bets podcast this summer stating he sees it being legalized in about 4 years.

Legalize and Regulate Sports Betting N.B.A. Commissioner Adam Silver: Allow Gambling on Pro Games

quote:

Let me be clear: Any new approach must ensure the integrity of the game. One of my most important responsibilities as commissioner of the N.B.A. is to protect the integrity of professional basketball and preserve public confidence in the league and our sport. I oppose any course of action that would compromise these objectives. But I believe that sports betting should be brought out of the underground and into the sunlight where it can be appropriately monitored and regulated.
