Everyone knew LSU was a good team back then...but the BCS title was bullshite and USC was easily the best team in the land.

The AP, FWAA, and NFF all do.
UPI was the only major poll service to award USC the national title in 1978 and that was a very close vote.

If the AP is so relevant and important then why does no one start the season saying their goal is to win the AP title? I know that wasn't USC's goal in 2003. They wanted the crystal football.
The BCS came to be because people were sick of the bullshite polls.

You can't claim titles over teams you lost to during teh regular season.
But Bama claims titles over...

LSU
Bama actually claims a title after losing twice!
Bama has 6 legit titles and that's it.
They can't claim the 1978 title - they lost - it's on youtube.
They can't claim the title to ND - they lost.
It's on youtube..

Nice argument for the AP poll when USC got it in 2003.
This is why many people view the AP poll as fickle and view the coaches poll as the official one.
