If you're referring to Los Mart, it's to make sure he gets back in time to still impact the season. The length of time needed to get him back into starting shape for this season would make him a non-factor.
It's not ideal, but it means we will see him pitch again in 2018.

Cards have the best pitching in the division right now and will be adding an ace caliber arm to the bullpen in Carlos Martinez shortly.
Dakota Hudson's (13-2 as a starter in AAA) addition to the bullpen has been massive. It's now a lock-down pen with the 105 mph gas-thrower in Jordan Hicks.
The push is real.
