why does LSU offer jerseys without a name on their website if it's illegal? so does Fanatics, Academy, Dick's, SEC Store, etc.

then explain it to us idiots.

one guy suggested selling Jerseys with no name on them.

you said it was illegal to do that.

yet many websites sell official LSU jerseys without names on them.

not it's not.

LSU currently sells Jerseys with no names on them directly from their website

If you have two #1s on the roster and you sell a #1 jersey without a name who gets the cut?

Or just split the revenue from all Jersey sales equally among all players

Put burrow on the 2025 team and try to sell “9” jerseys without compensating him and see how it works out for you

don't know the specifics for LSU and Jerseys, but for video games, etc. all the players have an option to opt in.
Once you opt in, you get 1 check.
and that's all you get whether the game sells 0 copies or 11 Billion.

LSU most likely has a similar type of deal set up with players and jerseys
so if Aron Anderson and Ashton Stamps both chose not to opt in, then they get $0. If they did opt in, LSU cut them a check for whatever the agreement is, and that's it. And players who wear every other numbers that opted in gets the same amount (LSU may negotiate different amounts for different people, but are not legally obligated to do so).

either way, neither of them gets paid specifically for that jersey having their number on it.

by not selling it with a specific name on it, they are not selling either player's "name".
a #1 Jersey could be Anderson, Stamps, Ja'Marr Chase, or could just be "my team is #1"

the #18 jerseys LSU sells could represent anyone that ever wore it, or the "meaning" behind the number itself.

by not tying it to any specific person, no specific person gets paid directly as a result of that jersey being sold.

There’s collective licensing deals so this is almost certainly incorrect

But in some cases they’re absolutely selling their likeness

You can’t just make shite how you “think” it would be

You’d get your arse handed to you in court, but considering you’re an idiot, that’s unsurprising

if Joe Burrow in 2025 doesn't sign with whatever Group Licensing Agency LSU/Nike uses, there is nothing he can do about it legally. He would be forfeiting his right to collect from the sale.

LSU/Nike owns the rights to the jersey colors and design.
they can put literally any number on it they want and sell it as a "generic" Jersey.

Burrow only owns the rights to his own name.
Which wouldn't be on the jersey.

which gives the players a cut for anything with their names on them.
it also helps to track and compensate players for the "customized" jersey where you pick the number and name of the player.

that particular player gets compensated because it's HIS specific jersey being sold.

so even if you if pick some completely random backup, he still gets his cut because you bought HIS jersey.

it would never even make it to court, because LSU has the right to sell generic jerseys not tied to any specific player.

I haven’t been the biggest follower but has LSU had a #9 since Burrow?
