on the goalline play.

it has to be the stupidest, idiotic, lowest percentage offensive play in the history of football.

except to randy moss.

It's the most beautiful play in football with a great throw and catch though.

It seems like it has a success rate of about 20%

There's a slight difference between a correctly thrown fade and a "jump ball" which a lot of teams seem to do.

Yeah - a 33% success rate instead of a 15% success rate.

It's still a dumbass call.

The other bad thing about that route/play is that the refs essentially view it as a jump ball so the defenders can get aggressive as shite on it and that gives them another leg up.

I always wonder whatever happened to the little short out route and throw it to the pylon.
Montana and Rice used to do this ALL the time. On short and goal, they would bring Rice in motion behind Montana, run everyone else to the other side of the play, and he would just run an out route in the flat that was basicly right on the goalline and Montana would just throw it to the pylon and let Rice catch it get it over. I can't remember how many times they ran that play.

Man that's a good point. They ran that a shitload - Montana even won that classic MNF game in Denver with that play (when he was a Chief).
