Why?

my reasons dont hold up to analytics.
or even taking total team roster into account.

Brady did more with less.

i was living in Marin when Joe was a 49er. at the time los angeles was big dog. lakers, dodgers, rams. it was oppressive.

i saw the first parade.

electric.

It’s just like everything with people like this..no perspective. No perspective on culture of the day, etc...in this case no perspective on Cam’s injury history. The contract is for projected future production idiot...he’s already been paid for the past. If he didn’t make a good deal it’s his fault. Unfortunately, Cam needs to prove he is healthy/can stay healthy. If he can he will benefit. This isn’t the Welfare Football League.

I'm told that Cam Newton's one-year deal with the Patriots does not include a provision preventing New England from applying a 2021 franchise tag on the former MVP QB. Wow

That’s surprising. Pats couldn’t have asked for a better deal here.

COVID could end up making the QB franchise tag lower than usual and the pats will have plenty of cap space if Cam ends up ballin out.

No risk whatsoever and if Cam can roll the clock back and return to 2010-15 Cam he can put a team on his back like few can. As far as Cam goes even with the bravado and the dude is an absolute oddball He just loves the game.

He won’t be asked to do that

Curious how they tailor the offense for him if he does win the job. Schematically it’s a weird fit but Bill loves to morph to fit his players strength

Guy on Russillos podcast today did a deep dive on that and felt they would morph into more of a Ravens/49ers level run heavy team which would be interesting.

Pats have an excellent line, if Andrews and Wynns health hold up and I think there’s some creativity that McDaniels brings that Cams never had in his career. So it’s gonna be fun to watch unfold

On Russillo’s pod when Brady left, a guest said that Bill B has always been infatuated with having a running quarterback. I think he has his guy now.

I think that’s more of a Josh McDaniels infatuation than a bill Belicheck one.

Probably both, tbh. I found the podcast. It was Kevin Clark that said it.

I think Belicheck is more interested in the value of this potentially working out more than anything

McDaniels when he had full control in Denver went straight for a dual threat type QB in tebow. So I think the interest is much more McDaniels heavy than BB.

Part of it is also just trying to find a way to make these skill guys work bc they aren’t in a position to make massive improvements there this season. Adding another element like a running QB could help unlock some of the younger WRs and Sanu with some different move packages and scramble drill type stuff.

Also hopefully it’ll help the Pats not be so predictable in the run game because the Sony/White splits for running/passing just isn’t going to work

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have proved it works, albeit in a different way.

As far as the Patriots skill players, it’s like an island of misfit toys, but I think Cam makes them better due to the dimension he brings. Let’s not forget Cam made Kelvin Benjamin a legit receiver. I think what he has in Edelman, Sanu, and Harry is still better than what he had at receiver for most of his career with the Panthers.
