Out for the next 2 games as well. The call is terrible and the ejection is rediculous. Umps are haters. You'll see what I'm talking about after you watch the clip.

He earned the ejection, you can't draw the line in the dirt to show up the ump. Ball looked low and outside but you can't tell what he said when walking away either.

not really

the third strike call was beyond ridiculous. Wow, not even close. A call that bad is almost baiting him to get ejected.

The call was bullshite. I've seen players do worse than putting a line in the dirt. If that's all he did, along with a comment like "this is a bit off the plate", then the ejection is bogus. But most of the time, umps don't jump on you like that for an innocent comment like that.
To quote possibly the greatest baseball movie ever:
"He probably called him a cocksucker."

Nah...can't show up the ump. The ump did the right thing.

You show up an umpire, you're going to get tossed...
But if he's calling pitches that are over the batter's box strikes, who gives a shite? You aren't getting on base anyway.

He went about it the wrong way, sure. I'm still sticking with, if all he did was draw that line, it's still a bullshite reason to eject someone.
If the ump did it because the guy "showed him up" by drawing a line where the ball crossed, then the ump has ego problems, and doesn't need to call any more games.
The moment that you can't question a call in sports is when the umps have become too big a part of the game. Everyone knows arguing balls and strikes will get you tossed. But he didn't argue.

Yet another umpire who is now looking for a publicist

Bottom line, you can't be disrespectful to the ump. This will get you ejected 10 times out of 10. Agree or disagree, it'll get you ejected everytime.

This is the main factor. I didn't see it as so much showing the ump up. He "said" his piece by drawing the line, and was going back to the dugout. If the ump takes this personally that the player didn't agree with his call, that's the umps problem.

Good call he deserved to be tossed. He is not bigger than the game. Period. You cannot argue balls and strikes and you cannot kick up dust at the umpire.

umps have the biggest egos. They think everybody comes to the ballpark to see them. screw him

quote:Didn't Brian Jordan talk about this while he was doing LSU's game this past weekend? He said in one of his first games he did that to an ump and got tossed. When he went back to the dugout, Ozzie Smith told him this isn't the NFL. That will get you tossed everytime.
drawing a line where the ball crossed

if you argue balls and strikes you get ejected. However, it was a terrible call. Umpires need to get over themselves. We dont go to watch you

I'll stick with my opinion of the ejection being the wrong call. I am a league director for a baseball program and in charge of officials. If one of my umpires ejected a kid for that action they would have disciplined. Not fired or suspended, but just talked to about the situation and what warrants an ejection. There's a difference between drawing a line outside the strike zone and walking away and standing there complaining about the call. The kid walked away. Now if the kid would have opened his mouth at anytime while walking away or drawing the line then yes he's got to go. Arguing balls and strike is grounds for automatic ejection, but as I said in my opinion he did not stop and tell the umpire anything. That video was inconclusive.

I don't think you're teaching the kids anything by letting them do this.

I don't care what he said other than cursing. What he said, he said in passing while walking away, without even looking at the ump, and more just swiped at the dirt.

The problem with MLB umpires right there. The thickness of their skin is measured with a micrometer (most of them).
