And 5 years is a lot for a player his age?

For his age 32-36 seasons, not really.

More than 6 would be pushing it.

Call me crazy, but the Marlins may look into that.

So you think he will take an extra $10 million total for 3 extra years of work?

I dont think the issue is money with him. i think he wants guarnteed years, even if you can be released

He’s gonna be a Tiger again

He never played for Detroit

However, he did play for a college that calls themselves the Tigers...

He would be a good fit in Seattle. He adds average and power to the lineup. 1-6 would be solid.

Well, it's all relative. If I am running a team, I'm not gonna pay for the prime Alex Bregman of 6-9 years ago knowing that his production will almost certainly not approach that at 32-36.

So yeah, I'll give him 5 but not nearly at the AAV he would have gotten had he re-upped with the Sox for the remainder. And maybe he's fine with that?

It's all about the money. He is leveraging his situation with the Red Sox. They overpaid him bigly to not commit to longer term due to his expected aging, probably not expecting he would dare opt out with 18 HRs batting .273 after missing significant time with another injury.

We've all seen his big balls in the wheelbarrow, but man, I'm just baffled that he passed on $80M guaranteed for the next 2 years after being hurt and putting up the numbers he did this year. Of course, I was shocked when the Red Sox gave him that much to begin with.

He must gamble a lot.

but considering the Bregman signing is was led to the Devers trade it’s going to make Breslow look like an absolute moron all over again if Bregman walks.

Maybe so but Devers acted like a bitch in Boston and was arse with the Giants

he started coming around toward the end of the season and Fenway is a much better park for him than Oracle.

it would maybe be less bad if you got ANYTHING back for him other than two AWFUL relievers

Yes, agree with all you say above - he was really fortunate to get that deal and it truly is a gamble to opt out as he may not get anything close to that again. Unless as I suggested he'll take significantly less AAV for 5 years.

His agent is the gambler. Bregman will probably sign right before spring training like last year.
