I would like to point out he is 1st in the league of fielding percentage among third basemen....
That is better than average.

Is there a reason you think he is above average defensively?
I don't watch him much, but in the last 2 playoff games he's made several difficult plays appear routine. Tells me he has the ability to be above average. I don't know whether he has been up to this point in his career or not.

Also I think you are just looking at AL stats there. He was 5th in fielding percentage amongst 3B in 2017.

I think Bregman gets knocked down in the rankings due to his lack of range.

Range is not huge factor at 3rd base, much more important for SS and 2nd base.

He is very good going to his right and coming in on the ball but doesn’t make a ton of plays to his left.

I don’t know why he grades out like he does, I think he’s above average just watching him then look at the stats and they say otherwise. I rarely am watching a game and think to myself “he should have made that play” like I do when Marwin is playing the left side of the IF. I’m also someone who thinks the public defensive metrics are not very good right now though.

The posted stats give him a top 5 range factor. That's not bad.

It's good that he does well on the balls he can reach but fielding percentage doesn't really tell the whole story.

I’d say his range at SS is pretty elite as well

Watch Chapman in Oakland if you want to see an elite defensive third basemen. He may be the best defensive player in MLB regardless of position.

Kind of crazy how much he blows away everyone else.

He’s unbelievable. Imagine a left side of the infield when him and Andrelton Simmons
