Didn't the new BREC superintendent create a position for a admistrative assistant to her? $150k per year from What I heard?
It got passed through the BREC commission so she can hire someone for that position. I think the $150k is the top line of the position.

Copper Mill is in Zachary. It's a gimmick layout 6-6-6 (Some good holes but the sum is less than the parts.) Copper Mill is a $50 fee course.
I actually like the 6-6-6 layout.

The city of Zachary can't support it...should have never been built. And, too many courses in BR which keep people from driving to Zachary to play
So, you're saying Zachary isn't supporting Copper.
B.R. is supporting it?

I'm saying they aren't supporting at a level where it is profitable. Yes

Waste of money. How much did she pay for this consultant to come in and give his recommendations?

And Beaver was built before or after?
Either way, B.R. people are helping make it profitable..
That's interesting.

I didn't read the whole thread but no one wants to admit golf is leveling off or declining.
The tiger effect of the late 90's, early 2000's is now a bunch of mid to late 30's guys who realize they suck and are tired of paying $70 to get their arse kicked.

I'm not positive, but I think Copper opened just before BC.
Copper Mill is 100% NOT profitable.

Well, I'm sure as hell glad that's not how I look at golf. Or golf specifically in Baton Rouge.
If the market contracts, so should the supply.
Howell/Dumas are gone pecans.
Those golfers can find other places to play.

Nothing, the PGA footed the bill!

All I'm saying is golf isn't as popular as it was 10-15 years ago.
I bet there are very few courses built in the last 15 years that are turning a profit.

Seeing the number of rounds there is an over saturation o courses for the rounds played. Raising prices to get rid of the hacks will kill you unless you are a true elite or resort type of course. As a golf course operator hacks make up a ton of your rounds probably well over half.
The golf business has died since 2008. At the course I operated until recently we fell off 20% in ebitda since than. From right at 1 million a year to now just under 800k. Bargain shoppers have exploded operational costs sky rocketed and round went down. Luckily we remained the busiest in town doing 56k in rounds but 2 or 3 other courses are going bankrupt in town. Never mind the impact to private clubs which have had to come up with great deals to get members ie waiving initiation at some very nice clubs.

I tried to play Dumas last summer for the first time in years. I couldn't even find a place to park because the zoo spilled over into a fricking water park. Who the fuk thought that was a good idea.

Played Copper Mill once. Course was in good shape but the staff was terrible. They screwed up our tee times then didn't offer to try and fix it. We had to demand they fit us in.

Faced with consistent seven-figure deficits in its golf operations, East Baton Rouge Parish Recreation and Park Commission officials have launched a comprehensive review of the parish’s seven publicly funded golf courses, BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight said.
Most courses can go and not be missed.
Webb, Clark, Dumas, Howell.
I wonder if they decide the problem is cost (too many courses) or revenue (fees too low).

I was playing at Beaver Creek on Saturday around 2:15 the day of the Auburn game. Maybe 2-3 other groups were out there. One of the two marshals out there followed like 50 yards behind us the for most of the front nine. Creepy as frick.
