Pretty sure that Phil was either a Junior or Senior when Terry got to Tech so Terry taking over was a foregone conclusion. Also by that time, Phil was married, had a kid (Alan), and was more interested in shooting ducks and drinking than football. Phil was a damn good athlete but not really on Bradshaw's level.

No. Phil was one year ahead of Bradshaw. He was the starter in '66 and '67, and was slated to start in '68 when he suddenly quit football.
Bradshaw would have only started his Senior year, had Robertson played out his full eligibility.
