Bastrop head coach Brad Bradshaw performed his final duty as the coach of the Rams on Wednesday when he watched his final class sign national letters of intent. From there, he met with Morehouse Superintendent Tom Thrower to resign his post as the head coach and athletic director after 16 years at the school and 14 as head coach, citing health and personal reasons.

He posted a 148-33 career mark in 14 years and never had a team finish with a losing record.

Bradshaw sent several players to major universities over the years, including former and current LSU players Solomon Lee, Claude Wroten, Josh Downs and Rueben Randle.

Defensive lineman Denzell Devall could continue the Bastrop pipeline to the SEC next season. The soon to be senior Ram already has official offers from LSU and Arkansas, as well as TCU and McNeese State. "I learned a lot of discipline (from Bradshaw)," Devall said. "He's a great coach. He knows defense. Me and coach had a great relationship."
quote:
"He got me better in a lot of things that I was doing on and off the field," junior cornerback Kyron Thompson said. "He made sure your grades were right and made sure you worked hard in anything and everything you did. I don't think it will ever be the same without him."
Thanks to Tabby Soignier for the news. Her full article can be read here.

First, Dennis Lorio(sp) at Thibodeaux HS and now Bradshaw at Bastrop High
LSU just lost 2 of the most important supporters/influencers in high school. Hopefully, their successors will bleed purple and gold too.

I know, right? Hopefully someone in those parts will keep us posted on replacements-hate to see Chad Mahaffey go back to Bastrop.

Wow. That sucks.
Great in-state HS football coaches are our life blood. He took Bastrop and made it into a football factory. Got the kids who would have been "in the halls" and got them to become football players.
If we had coaches like him at all of our public schools, we'd have about a dozen more top flight in state recruits every year.

If he did leave it would be understandable because Mahaffey has a much better chance of winning bigger at Bastrop than U-High.
