So, Scott Boras isn't happy about what he sees as teams seeking to not be competitive. He's right, it is bad for the game and bad for his clients. He mentioned kicking teams out for not trying to be competitive and cited 1919.

Scott Boras wants relegation in the MLB. I've been fascinated with the idea of relegation in American sports. I think we all know it is a pipe dream but do you think relegation could remedy uncompetitive behavior or tanking strategies?

If relegation could be agreed to in the MLB, would you support it? Is there a rich guy in Albuquerque willing to buy the Isotopes' way into the majors?

For this to happen, you’d need to the pre t clubs to cut all ties with the minor league clubs.

Would love to see the Dodgers in the PCL.

If we were starting from scratch, I would be all for it. It adds a lot more excitement to the end of the season. I don't think it would really work in the NFL, but I could see it working in MLB and the NBA where the rosters are much smaller.

Like you said, it wouldn't be possible now. There is too much infrastructure against it.

Relegation is one of the things soccer gets right. There should always be an incentive to win games. When you reward losing it diminishes the league product

you also diminish your leagues product when you have actual minor league teams playing in it

I think putting interest in the lower part of your league is good for business. It is why I like the idea of giving higher draft picks to teams that have the best second half season that don't make the playoffs. Incentivize everyone to win.

What would you call the Marlins?

You diminish your league's product when teams are structuring in a way that makes them likely to lose more, instead of putting themselves in a position to win more.

Relegation would also have a major impact on how amateurs enter the league. Would you have a youth farm system that makes college null? Would the farm clubs start when they do now? If so, are players just signed to wherever they prefer to go? If you keep everything the same as now, how is draft order decided?

It's a very interesting topic even if it is all a pipe dream.

They are a minor league team. Oh, and Starlin Castro. A minor league team with Starlin Castro.

I'd argue that those minor league teams would provide more competition than a team determined to lose

i would say otherwise when even those players on those teams determined to lose have proven themselves to be the best minor league players

So let the bottom team play a seven game series at the end of the year against the best minor league squad. Winner gets to play at the highest level. If a minor league squad can't win, they don't get in. I would be very interested in something like that.

I hate the tanking and also believe its bad business for the league. The system needs some tinkering but building a team through the draft and thus your farm system has been shown to work especially in the smaller markets. Many teams just cant throw money at over priced deteriorating free agents.

Agreed. On the other hand, what's stopping the minor league teams that get promoted from signing top players now that they are a big league club making more money?

Boras is acting like Hillary: Change the rules when you don't get what you want.
