Why not,

he's not really rated that high to be considered overrated

he's square in that top 15-20 range

Lucky for him RGIII can move an offense

RG3 is only there b/c of briles, and that is briles' offense he's running

but I can see him moving on to a better college like Curley did due to one great player.

you see that houston team this year? he recruited most of those guys. briles is much more than 1 good player

Guy has a horrible bowl record and history of choking. But... everyone still thinks he is the shite.. I don't get it.

Losing in big games to better teams in not "choking", but that aside he is considered a great coach because he has done a great job. Look were OU was in the 90's and were they are today.

I do think after more than 10 years now, a coach can get stale and it might be a good idea for him to move on, but he has done a great job, to deny that is just ignorant.

Hell Saban out coached him in the 2003 BCS game.

Better coach who had a better team, playing in his own back yard.

yeah i don't see how stoops is overrated when he has dominated mack brown, who has a lot more advantages than stoops at OU. i don't think stoops is stale. i just don't think jones is on the level of bradford/white, and he needs to change some things defensively. VENABLES is stale, imho

It's gotta be Mack Brown. Stoops has pretty much owned Brown and the Big 12 over the last decade.

I'd add Jimbo Fisher. He was getting a boatload of press for doing absolutely nothing in his career as a head coach. He's lost to Wake Forest and Virginia, and has FSU on the rise!

They need a new D coordinator and a good secondaries coach.

USC exposed it in 2004 and Stoops has done nothing to change the system since.

He must be too arrogant to admit the deficiencies since he coaches safeties and that's one of their weak links

Texas goes 18 years with out a top 10 finish before Mack but have had several since he got there. His last 2 years at UNC they lost a total of 3 games, but have lost at least 5 every year since. How does any "over rated" coach accomplish that?

No way you should have a down year like las year at UT with their recruiting

recruiting rankings are not mathematical truths and UT's recruiting of late has been over rated. Mack's decision to only recruit "Texas" guy's has hurt them. He had big disagreements with assistants over this.

Mack, like Stoops may have stayed too long. He's done a great job and proven himself, but it is time for him to ride off into the sunset.

My point exactly. Almost like a Gus offense which is always great against lesser teams but needs a great QB to run it when stepping up in competition or his offense becomes non productive. When RGIII leaves we will get to see how over rated of a coach Briles is. Also I knew RGIII had a verbal commit to U of H before Briles took the Baylor job. RGIII is from my area as Coppers Cove is close to Temple and most years in the same district. I watched him play football and run track during his HS years.

it's just a leach-style spread

nobody will care. he's still the coach at baylor (unless he leaves)

shaking up the staff is part of it. UT's advantages are marginal also. They have more money, but not so much more that OU is a tin can operation. They have the same recruiting base basically. State borders are meaningless. OU is closer to big chunks of N Texas than Austin and Texas, unlike Ok, La and some others has a lot more transplants not loyal to the local teams.

OU dominated 2000-2004, winning all 5, since then its 4-3 Texas.

You are right. If he stays at Baylor no one will ever know or care if he has the ability to move up the over rated coaches list. Off topic question; Do you think Stoops seat is getting hot?
