JK is wrong. he is comparing apples to oranges. The lakers are a business and do exactly what will make them the most money.

This is Belichecks biggest philosophy

It pisses people off when he doesn't pay a guy like Welker after he posts 5 straight 1,000 yard seasons but Belichecks on the other side of the table going "yeah but what will my money gain for him next season and after that. I've already paid him for those 5,000 yards"

Stephen Jones is borrowing a page from that book finally. As opposed to strapping the team with shitty long term deals with the likes of Marion Barber.

The Cards are doing a great job of that, they love signing vets to one year deals.

This actually makes it worse. That US team could have really used Donovan, especially after the injuries.

Please tell me you are not comparing Wes Welker to Kobe Bryant

I'm scared to think about what football will look like in 20 years given the knowledge of the danger of concussions and the lawsuits stemming from that. It might be an unrecognizable game.

That's my opinion/truth bomb.

The only part of that I disagree with is the time line. I don't think it will take 20 years. If they develop some way to do a non postmortem CTE test on athletes, the lawsuit will be massive.

Especially cause we were thin up front and poorly conditioned. Jozy went down after 20 minutes and Jurgen did not bring a backup (Terrance Boyd). Plus, Wondo left one late that we all know LD would have drained, but this is a crazy hypothetical to know his positioning.

Klinsmann said that to justify the dumbest decision a USMNT coach has ever made, so take that for what it's worth.

What would they be suing for? The last lawsuit was because the NFL was withholding information or knowledge. I'm pretty sure they aren't doing that anymore after writing that $750M check

Why is it funny? Klinsmann hates the MLS.

I think its more accurate to say that he does not respect the work ethic of US players. He said he thinks MLS should be year around, so his players would stay in shape and compared them negatively to other US sportsmen after getting beat by Chile.

yeah

we're talking about Kobe's past value to the Lakers and you bring up that Belichick already paid for Welker's 5K receiving yards, as if that was equivalent to one of the GOATs in his sport winning 5 rings

Well clearly Welker is better at basketball than Kobe

“We practically only practiced fitness under Klinsmann."

"There was very little technical instruction and the players had to get together independently before the game to discuss how we wanted to play.”

The criticism of Klinsmann is fair, but his point about Kobe is correct.

Yes and no.

I sold my $11 face value Pelicans/Lakers tickets for $55 each a couple months ago. Did you see the Mitchell and Ness Most Sold Throwback Map that Deadspin published yesterday? About half the states were Kobe Bryant jerseys.

The Lakers may not be getting top dollar on the court out of his current contract, but I bet the ROI will end up positive. He's a cash machine (and has been for 20 years), just like Manning, LeBron, Ronaldo, Jeter and the like.
