I was thinking about the Gary Patterson quote. If Tcu, Utah, BYU, and now Boise State were to all stay in the conference, do you think it is a stronger (football) conference than the Big East? Do you think the MWC would be granted an automatic qualifier spot for the BCS?

As crappy as the Big East was this year, it's only going to go uphill. The MWC is dogshit.

Yes, I think so. TCU would be the crown jewel of either conference. It has the 12th biggest football budget in the nation and it has a natural geographical recruiting base the no other Mountain West or Big East SCHOOL can match. I have my doubts about Boise State maintaining its current level much longer, because they just have too many things going against them.

I think the MWC would become an AQ conference if those teams stayed. It's borderline right now and that's why the MWC wants to move the Boise/TCU game to Boise. Without Utah, BYU and TCU, the MWC is screwed.

If all three had stayed, they would have been close, but I don't think they would have granted an AQ spot (I don't think they made all 3 criteria)

I don't think the MWC is stronger top to bottom, just at the top right now

I don't think the Big East and the ACC should have ever been granted AQ status to begin with. If I were the king of the world, I would have three automatic at-large bids that go out to the three highest ranked conference champions from the seven weaker conferences, provided they were ranked 16 or higher. This year Boise State, TCU and Virginia Tech would have got the bids. Last year, Boise State, TCU and Cincinnati would have got the bids. In 2003, Ben Roethlisberger's senior year, the bids would have gone to Florida State, Miami (FL) and Miami (OH).

I think we will be able to tell quite a bit by how Utah plays next year in the Pac-12. They have averaged 10 wins a year for the last 5 years. If they join the Pac-12 and finish with only 5 or 6 wins, then it will really hurt the image of the MWC.

Says the person who believes that Connecticut had a tougher schedule than UNLV in 2010 and that LSU had a tougher non-conference schedule than Oregon State. It must really irritate you that South Carolina has never gotten a BCS bid and probably never will, while the potato school that was playing 1-AA football 15 years ago has gotten two of them.

For the record, I'm not the least bit worried that TCU or Boise State might bring home its first Crystal Football before LSU brings home their third. However, I do understand why the Little Sisters of the Poor might make you feel insecure.

Football
LSU 3, South Carolina 0

Baseball

LSU 6, South Carolina 1

Track

LSU 31, South Carolina 1

As it is, the MWC has been better than the Big East only once by most computer rating systems. That was this past year, and even then the Big East rated higher in about half the systems I've seen.

There are two times when pretty much all systems agreed that the MWC was in the top 6: 2008, when the MWC was better than the Pac-10, and 2009, when it bested the ACC.

If you really look at the numbers, you'll see that the Big East has been better than the ACC year in and year out since the 2004 dominoes fell, and it's always run neck and neck with the Pac-10.

The Big East hate is generally delivered by people who haven't done too much research on this.

Rhetorical info about the Big East: It usually doesn't have any great teams, but it also usually doesn't have any horrible teams, either.

The best team in the Big East is hardly ever as good as Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio State, or Virginia Tech, but the worst team in the Big East also is never as bad as Washington State, Minnesota, Kansas, Vanderbilt, and Duke.

Oregon State OOC: TCU (13-0), Louisville (7-6), BSU (12-1)
LSU OOC: UNC (8-5), WVU (9-4), ULM (5-7), McNeese (FCS)

Gotta go with G.A. on this one.

Do you realize that I'm the one who said Oregon State had a tougher non-conference schedule than LSU, not Gamecock? I know sometimes it can get confusing with the quotes.

Actually you pulled a good old-fashioned make shite up move.

You never asked me if I thought Oregon State's OCC was better than LSU's and I have never commented on that matter other than previously telling you that you are making shite up - much like I am now.

Oh. Well, whichever one of you said that Oregon State has the tougher OOC schedule is right, and the one who disagreed is a dumb arse.

But LSU had two AQ's on their non-conference schedule and Oregon State only had one. I thought AQ's were the be-all-and-end-all for you. I apologize for misstating your position. For the record, I pulled for South Carolina in every game they played this year and I like the Ole Ball Coach.

Absolutley. Hell, even Air Force gave OU a better game than Big East champ UConn.

Never. The powers-that-be will never let that happen.
